The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta is out, and there are some pretty interesting things in it:

- There's a sound folder named "ui" that's filled with voice clips of someone shouting gun names for what seems to be Gun Game. What's interesting is that all of the names are fake like in CS 1.6 and Source. For example, the MP7 is called the "K&M Sub7". I'm guessing they originally used fake names again before they figured out that gun companies wouldn't give a damn if they used the real gun names.

- csgo_english.txt contains the both the fake names for the original CS weapons and their proper names. There aren't the internal names; these are the ones that'd be used on the buy menu. I'm not sure what this would be use for; maybe back when GO was supposed to be a raw port of Counter-Strike: Source for the Xbox 360 and PS3?

- The level list doesn't appear to be final at this point. Maplist.txt has levels that don't appear in the texture folders, and vice versa. It's likely that some of the levels got a name change between the time their texture folder was made and maplist.txt was made.

- The skybox texture folder has textures for pretty much every level, including the ones not in the beta.

- There's a leftover menu texture from the original Half-Life in the resource folder.

- There's an early Decoy Grenade texture hidden in the "equipment" folder. It seems that the Decoy Grenade would be darker and have red stripes on it.

- The AK and Desert Eagle are reskinned Left 4 Dead 2 weapons.

- A new game mode called "Freestyle" is listed in the game's files. It lets you roam around levels without any listed rules and spawn bots for target practice, but your stats aren't tracked and you can't get achievements.

- The player avatars used in the PAX demo are in the game's files.

There's probably a lot more. I still need to rig the Source SDK so that it can view the models in the beta.
