Aux ran into some issue where Chrome barfed all over the forms on the board, making it impossible to post or do much of anything other than click links.

If you have the same issue, try enabling TidyHTML mode.

Note that this will probably break some pages badly, will definitely break some some pages to the point of uselessness, and all sorts of other "fun" stuff. So use with caution.

There's a link to disable the mode on the top of every page while in that "feature" in case it breaks something you need to use.

Very odd. I've never come across that problem with Chrome yet. I did somehow get a cookie that made it seem as if I was banned from typing in forum ID -- instead of 2 actual numbers. But when I cleared the cookies (as you suggested) everything was back to normal.

Did you have any extensions installed recently, Aux?

That's the thing, we checked. Even a clean install did it.

I'd be willing to bet something on Aux's machine is screwed up, though.

Same. Probably has something to do with the registry that needs some kind of cleanup?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some sort of malware or other nasty thing... Especially since it couldn't be produced.

I'll run a scan ASAP, Xk.

I've only ever had this problem once, and it wasn't on this forum.

Unfortunately, I can't say I know what happened, because it affected all of us instead of just me. Board code with us...

It's likely what everyone is saying and something in her registry that's fucked up.

I get this a lot on certain other forum software, so it's probably some sort of deep-seated Chrome issue.

So far I've been good with my various incarnations of Mozilla/Firefox/Nightly x64.

I figure it's some bug deep in Chrome. This is part of the reason I'm angling for software engineering instead of *shudder* web design.

Did a registry cleanup, let's see if that worked.

I really don't find that very likely at all.

Maybe it's located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Common\Rlz\Events\Fuck_Shit_Up_Randomly.

People like to blame things on registry keys because they don't understand what registry keys do, but generally speaking they just store data for Windows and various applications. Windows also uses registry keys to determine what programs launch automatically on start up.

Paulguy's Post configuration
The possibility is there that some extension or something messed with some undocumented, or otherwise impossible to access through the GUI, feature that screws something up. Not sure if chrome stores much in the registry, though.

In any case the issue is still a complete mystery and none of us have any idea as to what is going on.

Part of me wants to blame the markup, actually.

The markup sucks but there's still no reason something that's worked for over 10 years would suddenly stop.

I used Google Chrome for a long while by now, and I've never ran into that kind of trouble. (On any forums I've been on.)

Perhaps Aux's memory is corrupt and is causing the issue.

PErhaps she should run a memtest86?
