The thread in which we talk about weird stuff our parents do for seemingly little reason at all, to our amusement or whatever.

My mom signed up for LinkedIn some time ago, but has a very minimal profile, with her "current job" being Research Specialist.

Have I mentioned that my mom has been selling stamps on eBay for over ten years now, and often has to go to me to find out more information when, as a "research Specialist", she should be able to find out the infomation she needs on her own?

It's always a pleasure to see parents do these sort of things and are just more amusing than irritating. It's a nice change of pace.

Every time I'm in the room, EVER, when my dad is playing video games he always have some sort of question of how to do things; Regardless of if I have even seen, let alone play, the game in question.

My mother is ... addicted to "GetGlue" (whatever that is) and playing Flash games online.

The Flash games perform horribly, though, I wonder how she can even stand it. (If only I could get the damn Nvidia drivers installed on her machine, they'd be tolerable to look at...)

Oh man. My dad does all sorts of strange things.

His most recent unusual project? Making pickled vegetables on a large scale.

He originally wanted to use a bucket that used to hold laundry detergent, but we managed to convince him to not poison himself. There's a blue water cooler bottle in the garage, filled with brine and peppers. There's no lid. Something resembling mold appears to be growing.

Never try to teach her how to use a Linux distro, then.

I had to do this with my mother, and she picked up fairly well on it even with an Openbox desktop that's really not Windows-like - however, I did tweak the menus a bit.

The reason? She refuses to let me reinstall XP even though the install on there is entirely unusable now. She's too afraid of losing her saved emails. (This wouldn't be a problem if she'd jump to Gmail like I tried to get her to do at one point... but I just gave up on that endeavor.)

My dad is quite clearly nuts. This morning, I said "All right, I'm gonna steal the bathroom." As in, I'm going to use the bathroom for a while. He said, "Well, I hope you put it back when you're done. I had to search for it the last time!" "Get off your arse and do it yourself." "Hey, I found that under your bed!" "Don't blame me! Mum kicked it there when she was tidying!"

And a few minutes ago, he was playing around with a Commodore Linux operating system which had a speech synthesiser. And what does he type in? Probably the best phrase ever:

"Stephen Hawking has performed an illegal operation and will now be shut down."

Creased.

Yeah, totally available. Comes with a 3D Matrix-styled screensaver (awesomeness), a few games (such as OpenArena, which is awesomeness) and a load of emulators. And best of all, it works! I'm tempted to remove Natty Narwhal and stick it on.
