From what I see, it looks like a pretty solid port. I can't see the 3D, naturally, but given the game was notorious for its rich backgrounds and landscapes I think it will add quite a lot.

One thing that does bother me though is how the backgrounds seem... darker. Maybe this works on the 3D, but the gray clouds and darker sky on where I'm used to a bright sky don't really work. It specially makes no sense when the water is supposed to be reflecting bright light: They could've been faded to lighter colours even and it'd have worked better. Similarly, the blue-dimming under water doesn't look that well either.

Some of the effects might look odd in 2D, but I imagine it will make more sense in 3D. I haven't had a chance to go out and actually check it out on the 3DS (no connection here) but I plan to soon. I hear the rotating parts of Butter Building are great.

3D effect in it doesn't look bad.

If you turn the 3D off the colors actually brighten back up, too! I don't notice it unless I start thinking about it, really...

I've seen 3D effects on the 3DS with the game Super Mario 3D Land on youtube the other day, it looks pretty sweet, it really does suck that I have no 3DS to experience it first hand.

I couldn't help myself and grabbed Kirby's Adventure. It's great.


And those of you who are worried about the darkening effect, don't worry! You can turn it off in the options. What's more, the darkening increases/decreases based on how much depth you have set with the depth slider. With the depth off, everything is nice and bright.

I really don't feel the need or interest to pick up Kirby's Adventure at all, seeing as I own Nightmare in dreamland for the GBA.

And since I have no nostalgia due to the lack of ever owning an NES, I really prefer the remake and this 3D thing is not really anything that is pushing it for me due to my inability to enjoy it for the most part.

Eh, I grabbed it anyway.

My logic... well, I've played the game via emulation and liked it, couldn't hurt to put a little bit on it for an enhanced version. Besides, like it or not, it does give those who didn't own an NES a chance to play it legitimately.

I grabbed Excitebike because it's free, though, and Xevious because it's fucking addictive.

What, you were expecting something called 3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure to not be Kirby's Adventure?


Also, the other 3D Classics were not made harder or modified beyond converting it to 3D and touching up some of the graphics.

Well, I just figured people just said "Kirby's Adventure" generically like it was an actual game you got at the store and came on a cartridge. Kind of like how there was a "Sonic the Hedgehog" for xbox 360, that was a completely different game (I don't really care if the game sucks, it's beside the point of the example.).

Anyway, I'm just blowing off steam about being annoyed at the remakes remakes remakes crap. They're obviously doing the usual corporate bullshit of putting the least amount of effort in to make a product to make more money off of something they already made and sold ages ago. And sure, people get to play the stuff legitimately, fine, why not just not be a dick and let people play the old games if it actually mattered at all to them beyond something to profit off of?

It could be worse, they could be charging more than they are. The 3D Classics' prices are a bit high in my opinion compared to, say, Virtual Console releases... but it could certainly be much worse.

I think people just worry a bit too much - it's not like no new content ever gets released, after all. If remakes or rereleases don't interest you, just don't pay too much attention to them.

The thing with the price is, compared to the VC, Grezzo has to basically remake the game completely to work in 3D. Combine that with having to design the 3D layout of everything and adding visual effects, I can see the extra $2 in the price being justified.



Paulguy, it's clear you never played the original Kirby's Adventure. If you had, you wouldn't be complaining.

Kirby's Adventure is considered one of the best 100 Nintendo games of all time and one of the best NES games ever. And it came out 18 years ago. As a Kirby fan, I would be disappointed (as would many others) if it wasn't remade in some form.

... but Nightmare in Dreamland was a disappointment of a remake...

It's a good game on its own, but Kirby's Adventure is superior to it. It's not nostalgia, there are plenty of flaws in comparision to its source and it's not a good "remake" overall.
But it's still a good game on its own so it's ok. Those who didn't play the original should enjoy it.

Also, this isn't so much of a "remake" as it is a... port. Technically it IS a remake, but it focuses exclusively in looking like a port, rather than reimagining the game.
Which works perfectly for this.

Nightmare in Dream Land has some rather important differences that make it less suitable to bring back than the original Kirby's Adventure.



-Smaller screen. The GBA screen is only 240x160, compared to the NES output of 256x240. You've seen what DSiWare looks like on the 3DS, so imagine what GBA games would look like. (Edit: Corrected. My bad!)

-It's a GBA game. We don't have GBA VC yet.

-Larger sprites. Pretty much everything was increased in size with the new art style. Kirby is 20x18 instead of 16x16. Bugzzy went up from 24x31 to 54x48. King Dedede got even bigger, from 24x30 to 60x55. This is a very significant change, and affects the gameplay.

-Static backgrounds. Pretty much every background in the game is exactly the size of the screen, doesn't tile, and doesn't move. Sure, they're pretty, but they're not too exciting.

-No Butter Building rotations. One of the most disappointing changes in NiDL. Slowly-clearing fog? Really?



It wasn't a bad game, but I'd much rather have the NES original.
