I am currently making a new game. This is based on my adventures on the internet from when I was younger, and also based on the sketches and drawings I have done at work and school in the past.

Luigimobile was an ongong story for Luigi's quest to be known. This is not your average Luigi though. He looks the same, but he is very different. His full name is Luigi Roberto Mobile, and he has a pet parallelogram named Barg.

I am cameo-ing Acmlm's and my various friends and aquaintances on the first quest leading up to the first boss.

The main enemy will be Anonymous, as they are using their style of force to stop a global threat. Not much is known about them. And no one knows they're stopping a threat. It is up to Luigi and his pet Barg to get to the bottom of things and stop the chaos that is ensuing.

Silly I know but I always wanted to make a real translation of my Luigimobile world I had over IRC a good time ago. Now that I have the tools to do it, I want to do it.

It looks really cool! The spaces are really sparse, though. Is there a reason for that? Luigi's pretty small comparatively.

The spaces are a problem for me unfortunately. The landscape has been having aesthetic problems for a while. As for the houses though, I like to decorate, so a large house is what I like to go for at times.

I am currently juggling scripting the boss and scripting a quest. Luigi was kept out of Acmlm's hallways leading to TCRF where the boss, which I will keep a secret from the forum, is being held for safety purposes. It is up to Luigi to find the key, though Xkeeper is tricky and clever. It won't take just finding it where he says he put it...

I am at a loss for what to do. Currently, my story involving Acmlm's Building has a very rickety plot to it.

This makes Xk look too strict though and it may require a story change up. But I can't think of how to change things. I need creative ideas.

I got the demo out! It's Alpha .05 since I was getting reception from an assumedly softer source first before I post it here to the gaming veterans. It's still an early build so yeah.

Tell me if I am too 'mean' in Acmlm's plot and I'll change it. I just have to have some reason to close Acmlm's until a hidden surprise late in the game.

Sorry that this is a bit late. I've been fairly busy this week, so I haven't had the time to type this up.

Anyway, it's a good start. It has a nice and quirky plot, the custom music is quite fitting, and I like the inclusion of overworld enemy sprites instead of just having random encounters. However, there are quite a few things that could be improved upon. (I'll skip the minor bugs since I already gave my list to you.)

First of all, there are some problems with the music:

1. I think that you're already aware of this, but the default RPG maker music clashes with the custom music you've added. I recommend replacing all of the default music with similar custom music.

2. Some songs don't loop properly. This is just a simple matter of removing the fade-outs in most songs with an editing program, so it shouldn't be too difficult to fix.

3. Some songs are too loud. Ideally, all of your songs should be at about the same volume level. Yet again, an editing program should do the trick here.

Second of all, I have some concerns about the graphics and level design:

1. The graphics don't really mesh well. To match the style of your hand-drawn graphics, I recommend hand-drawing all of the graphics. It's a lot of work, but it will give the game a unique and unified style of graphics, which I think is worth the effort.

2. The maps are a bit bland. The vast majority of maps have a lot of empty space in them, so they would probably look much better if they had more decorations.

3. You shouldn't use invisible walls. In outdoor areas, it's best if you put some kind of obstruction if you don't want the player to go in a particular direction. Otherwise, it looks to the player like they can go that way, and they get discouraged when they find out that they can't.
If you get creative with these obstructions, you can also help with the blandness problem.

4. The ability crate in Shyguy's store is hard to notice, and I only found it by chance. I recommend drawing more attention to it, either by making it visually more interesting or by mentioning it in Shyguy's dialogue. (Or both, but one should be good enough.)

Third of all, there are some gameplay issues:

1. Luigi seems to move a bit slowly. I forget what RPG Maker VX's capabilities are in this matter, but it would be best if you could make him move a bit faster.
If that can't be done, then you should probably make smaller maps in the future.

2. You shouldn't have too much backtracking. Right now, it's not so bad, but you should try to avoid having main quests with backtracking in the future.

3. The key item for the rock at the end is a bit hard to find. I would recommend making it a little bit more obvious on where to find it in the dialogue for the rock.

4. I had to use the debug shades to get through the game, so you should work on the balancing of the enemies. Battles in this game go a bit slowly, so it really shouldn't have much grinding at all in the final product.

Finally, there are a couple of issues with the dialogue and the story.

1. Some of your dialogue sounds a bit awkward. If you're a native English speaker, I recommend reading all of your dialogue aloud to yourself, allowing you to catch most awkward sentences.
If you're not a native English speaker, I recommend finding one to run your script by every so often.

2. Barg's presence is unexplained. Since he appears to be the deuteragonist of this game, and since he seems like a fairly unique character, I think he at least deserves some sort of introduction. I suggest having him block the door to Luigi's house, forcing a conversation with him before he joins your party, then allowing the player to progress.

That about covers it. I know it looks like a lot of criticism, but I think this game has a lot of potential. As such, it's best to focus on what needs improvement rather than what's already being done correctly.

As I've told you before, despite the fact that it has a long way to go, I enjoyed what I played, and I'm looking forward to further updates.

Header: No problem. And thank you! I kinda wanted to make this even WHEN I had my Luigimobile IRC channel, but I didn't know exactly what type of game. I originally thought of rom hacking but the more interested I was with the idea, the more I wanted to rush things, which I was careful in not doing.

a1.) I am aware. I tried to code it for each area to have its own custom music. The title screen needs custom music though. And game over too.

a2.) I didn't notice this! I'll look into this.

a3.) I know. There is an option to turn certain tracks down. Maybe I can use that as a shortcut.

b1.) My original plan was to make expressions for each character hand drawn. But I was afraid that if I changed 3D Luigi to drawn Luigi, then it would be a step backward in quality. Maybe I should give it a try...

b2.) I am odd at maps, unfortunately. Since this is my first RPG game I'm making, I am still a map novice. But I can decorate them further. It's just a matter of what with, given my limited object files.

b3.) Tried hard to smash this problem. But I end up making either too many trees or have too much lake space. Having islands around is nice, but Internet isn't an islandic place. It's more of a peninsula.

b4.) Alright. I'll fix that. :3

c1.) I could make smaller maps. Again, that's a matter of my map making ability. Thank you for the suggestion. :3

c2.) Noted. I might make more gimmicks, and try not to have too much backtracking.

c3.) The dialogue for the rock near the second town was rushed. I was planning on polishing it.

c4.) Noted. Balancing is hard to do at times though. Have you had fun with the first boss?

d1.) Noted. Also, Barg has a sort of sliding scale of intelligence. So he can say words that sound childish. Like 'candies'. As for Luigi, I will polish his speech.

d2.) Noted. That does sound like a good idea.

Footer: Thank you! And thank you for your input! It really helps!

Hold Shift to run in RPGMakerVx. This speeds up luigi by quite a bit.

Alright, I am battling with ideas for this game. I thought I'd just take a basic story and mash it up and hope that it stretches into a good story when I flattened it out. This would work if I didn't just up and ADHD out of it all.

Anyway, here was the original story:

Luigimobile, an area of the internet, started by one of Luigi's many lives, Luigi R. Mobile and his pet denizen from a notebook world of Brumbland, Barg, is out on many adventures of indeterminable purpose. Later on, they found out that the internet gods, Anonymous, is suddenly attacking the Netlands (Or Espernet or something cheesy) for an unknown reason. Finding out through battle, Luigi, Barg, and the rest of the crew discover that a mysterious yet familiar face was at work. A mysterious face that once decided to nab all known universes for himself.

But this may be weird and anger the real Anon, which I probably don't need.

So I am thinking making Mario the antagonist. But that'd make either the game shorter.... or more convoluted than my original plan. As we probably found out on Game Theory, Mario is not as he seems. My idea is to flesh this out and make Mario end up being The Charming Magician, or Dimension Traveller near the end. (Besides, picturing Mario in Dimentio's clothes just gives me the giggles.)

BUT I am also thinking of doing something stupid with this game.

Instead of having story, or ANYTHING, I may think about condensing Luigimobile into one planned feature. The Ancient Sanctuary, which works as a "Pit of 100 Trials", featuring all the planned enemies, sans bosses. While this may make things easier for me, it may suck, given the whole point is to battle to the bottom of the Sanctuary to Ballos' Shadow (Which will give most FF bosses a run for their money.)

What do you guys think?

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
