Video part 1 (of 17)

stuff:
The main menu is different, and the "select skater" text doesn't line up with the background like it should
The loading screen is different
The fonts are nonexistent
There's annoying crowd noise instead of music
Bucky Lasek's model is different, Kareem, Andrew, Rune, and Jamie all use Chad Muska's model
Elissa Steamer isn't in
The mall level has a bunch of different textures ("Victor's Secret", "Buttbuster Video", etc)
All the tapes in each level seem to just be placed at various points in the level, rather than all having different requirements. This also means that the S-K-A-T-E letters are unimplemented.
The point bonuses look like Sonic-style gold rings instead of the floating numbers

There are four levels that didn't make it into the final:
Classic Concrete (looks more like a test level)
Downhill (apparently based on the arcade game Top Skater, no real relation to the other level Downhill Jam)
Freeway
Suburbia (basically San Francisco with mspaint textures and a bunch of stuff missing)

There are probably some other minor design changes visible in the videos.

Has anyone messed around with this before? It's something I've wanted to see an article about for a while, but I haven't actually looked at anything about this outside of those Youtube videos so there's not really a whole lot I can do to that end yet.

I have toyed around with it on epsxe and a modded psx. I also have a hacked version, footage here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbBOYwjYj60

I haven't identified if it is unlocked material they hacked to function, or if it's user made content

Pretty interesting. Looks like something that was initially used to test the image and then was taken out once they started designing the "real" levels.

I don't think it's user made content, I found patches for it that date back to 2002 which seems way too early for people to have been hacking THPS like that. It's probably legit.
