My first world didn't have any shadow orbs, for those still wondering. Going through with a map viewer didn't show any, nor any horizontal caverns at the bottom of the chasms. Oh well, that world was shit anyways.

So, update is out.

First thing I did on a new world/new character was stick 5 beer kegs in my house. Balls to the anvil, furnace, etc. Drinking booze gives you a "tipsy" buff which increases your damage but lowers your defense. I haven't tried it yet, but I hope the effect stacks the more you drink, so you eventually end up with a "Drunken Rage" buff where you obliterate everything around you.

Since I started a new character, I haven't gotten to see much yet in the way of changes. I mostly spent my time sweeping the floor of the underground jungle on a high-end character looking for a jungle rose for my new character, building a house for that new character and filling it with beer and other new furniture.

Apparently Starfury is usable underground now which is nice, but it can still be rather useless depending on how the cave is formed. The best feature is the UI overhaul. My inventory isn't a complete and absolute mangled mess anymore now that there are ammo slots. No longer do I find myself scrambling for inventory space because I have 3 wooden arrows, 16 fire arrows and 6 jester arrows eating up slots.

Just got Terraria. I think Minecraft is better imo, but Terraria is still a ton of fun.

Everybody who's bitching about the difficulty bump are blowing things out of proportion. I was able to beat Eater using only a meteor hamaxe, two buff potions, and standing in one place... with iron armor.

I was kinda iffy on the difficulty bump at first, but I think I might enjoy it. Can't just blow through the jungle swinging my sword like a maniac anymore, gotta use strategy!

(Of course, I have yet to try defeating a boss...)

Me (Silver armor, Throwing Knives, 400 HP) and Kazinsal (Meteor Armor, Space Gun, 320 HP) beat the Eye of Cthulhu without any potions.

Then again, the Eye is weak and Kaz was pretty well-equipped.

For me personally, the difficulty bump is not a problem at all and I even welcome it. But that is only because I'v had my molten armor set complete and the fire sword (forgot its name) since 1.01.

A new player in 1.06 will probably find the game waaay harder. Getting to hell is harder with so many more enemies now. Hellstone ore is a heck of alot harder to find and mine now too. And crafting the armors (all armors) is now more involved and time consuming. Potion cooldowns and better enemy AI add to the difficulty in general too.

I'm not complaining, just noting how the game was easier and crafting the best armors was easier and so I (and most other early adopters) got very well equipped very early on.

On a side note, I have tons of weapons/armors/accessories that I'm just hoarding for no good reason. I would love to trade some of it for some green dye/jungle seeds. Where are you all playing?

I can't tell the difference between difficulties because I haven't found anything worthwhile in my new world. I can't even get meteorite bars for some reason. How exactly do you get those? I've destroyed two dark orbs now and that should have done it but so far nothing.

Good news: I beat Eater of Worlds using a Devastator hammer or whatever it is and like four potions.

Bad news: after beating it, power surge. Ended up corrupting my world, but saved my items. I can't delete my world either, leaving it a blank name.

So I had to start a new world. :|

That's some sucky luck there CPU.
But yeah, in order to get a meteor you need to break three shadow orbs. You could always flee the battle and Eater of Worlds should too if you're far enough away. But then you need to wait a time before the meteor will actually fall.

From my experience a meteor will not fall after reloading your world, but it may have changed. When the 1.0.6 update came I restarted entirely since I kinda needed to anyway so I've not done a whole lot.

My world was completely corrupted, so yeah started a new one.

You only need to break one, but you can break two. A meteor fell and while I was finishing up mining meteorite, I was told something was watching me. Warp back to base to see what I can craft and EYE OF FUCKING CTHULU FUCK FUCK FUCK

Totally unprepared, but still took it down without a problem. Whoo~
