For extra security- floppy disks can decay over time, after all, so you need to make sure no decay has occurred.

You check if they're equal... (after all, the chances that they both would have decayed in the same exact way is not high) Of course, the problem with that is if they do differ, you don't know which one is correct... but at least you know there's an issue somewhere.

Or, you could use error-correcting codes and interleaving. That way, if you lose some data, you can repair it and copy it over to another disk before the original goes bad.

Incidentally, CDs and DVDs make use of error-correcting codes and in-sector interleaving to improve readability.
