Every forum has to have at least one topic about how usernames came about, right? Right? If one of these already exists at this forum, screw you.
__________

My involvement with internet communities started back in midieval times. They were the days of dial-up, where 26.6kbps was friggin' blazing. I had one of those fast connections. I was the man. Back then, chatting really came in two forms: IRC, and direct telephone conversations. However, the HTML Common Gateway Interface was in existence, which allowed web servers to toss up their own programs to do what-have-you. In this case, there was a little HTML-CGI chat room dealie on one site I went to.

The site allowed you two options: Display Name, Text Color. I figured "hey, I can make a name for myself here!" However, I didn't want to make a bad name for myself, so I had to think of something stupid. I decided to pick the color first.

Ah, hex triplets. Who knew? Well, I knew, but the option wasn't there that you could type in your own color value. It was a drop-down list containing all the "web-safe" colors. You know, consisting only of 00, 33, 66, 99, CC and FF. So I just decided to pick one, mostly at random. It was 0066FF.

"Hey," I thought, "that's full-intensity blue. And kinda green, too." Thus, the username was born: Blue-greenish name Guy. But the text was a bit too dark; seeing how the chat room was on a black background. So I picked the next one lighter, 0099FF, which continues to be my trademark color to this day. (See avatar)

Then came the forum system. Or, as it were, the "bulletin board." Wait, you had to register your account to be able to post anything? Okay, sure. At least I didn't have to submit my e-mail address. I was familiar with the forum idea at the time, actually, and I knew that I didn't want to have a big-freaking-long username cluttering things up, so I abbreviated it on a per-letter basis. Hark: BGNG. This continued to be my username for many, many years.

During one of my chatting sessions, I brought up the fact that (at the time) I was soon to be an uncle. And, as all uncles do, I would need to create a chain of family restaurant. Thinking up something that hadn't been thought of before, I settled on the name "Uncle BGNG's Family Breakfast Kiosk."

Then there was another conversation, about some internet loser guy seeking a companion of sorts. This clever guy, though desperate loser, made humorous comments about "Does anyone know a woman whose last name is Perfect? You know, Miss Perfect?" Ah, what a dork......

Long story short, I'll be moving in with her soon, but I really see her as more of a sister than anything. And if my sister's last name is Perfect, then mine must be too. But I needed a first name! "BGNG Perfect" just doesn't roll off the tongue very well. And in my days, I've had people call me "Blue," "BGNG," "name guy," "Blue-greenish" and the like, but never just "Guy." Not once. Ever..... to my face.

And the moral of the story is, I'm Guy Perfect, and my domain name is perfectkiosk.net

Mine comes from a character from the MegaMan Battle Network series (my favourite video game series). I've always thought of Higsby as a cool character and he even reflects some of my personalities.

I've always used the name Higsby and use it on many other sites as well.

Let's see now...

On the first incarnation of Acmlm, I was goldenyoshi2000. That name was basically a mashup of a bunch of things. I liked Yoshi, so that made the cut. Golden just sounded so luxurious and superior, so I added that on to the beginning. And for some crazy reason, back then I thought it was cool to suffix stuff with some thousand number, so 2000 got added to the end. So basically, that's how that mess of a name came about .

On the second incarnation, I thought it was time to clean it up a bit. The 2000 had to go, plus I thought it'd be right to give the words proper uppercase letters and put a space between the two words, so...ta-dah...Golden Yoshi, the name you are all enjoying now .

I was however, temporarily Trinity on the third incarnation. Since it was my third time registering, I thought it was a badass username, but quickly got bored with it :\. Meh.

Let's see... My first username ever was "TT_WWW." (my first name's first letter twice, an underline, and "www.". Apparently meant to symbolize "Tomas on the internet".), which I used on the Aftonbladet (Swedish newspaper) chat rooms. This was before I got a computer.

Later, I used the username "Tompacool" ("Tompa" being a common Swedish nickname for "Tomas", my first name) on the Swedish sort-of-like-myspace-but-earlier-and-more-sucky site "Lunarstorm". Both the username and site was a mistake in retrospect.

My third major username was created for my first forum, PPN, Pokémon Planet Network (later TAN, Total Animé Network), which I originally joined to ask a member a n00bish ROM hacking question. That member didn't have his email address in his profile and I had to register to PM. The PM was never actually sent. That user name was "Smallhacker". The name consists of two parts, "hacker", which I considered myself to be, and "Small", which I was. (I was very short at that time).

Since then, "Smallhacker" has been my only major username.

Drag's Post #365
I first used Drag when I registered on the first incarnation. It comes from "Dragon", because I like dragons.

Before that, I had a bunch of stupid names, like Fireplazma (sic), and SuperUIOP.

Basically, I never was creative with coming up with usernames, and I didn't want to use my actual name or anything, so I usually came up with something stupid.

Then, when I discovered that dragons were really awesome, I started using Drag, which is what I still use today.

Has too much free time

720
The year was 2000. I was in independent study. I had been surfing the internet since some time in 1998, but at last I had a real (read: eMachine) computer, instead of a 486 fished out of the garbage.

I had become rather lonely, for while I did not miss fighting with practically everyone I met (with fists, no less--public school children are little monsters X_X) I still wanted to talk to human beings. I had been going to this website www.nintendoland.com for my Nintendo information, when I noticed on their 'Deathmatch' section, they had a message board.

At the time known as Nintendoland message boards, a subset of VGF. After looking around a while, they didn't interest me--except for one thing.

People had begun roleplay battling on the board, and there was a topic where you could do such. It had always been my dream for there to be a cross-franchise battling thing, and at the time the choices were rather limited, if they even existed.

I'd been searching for these since a long time ago, even trying to join dead MegamanX games and another one which was short lived and managed by somebody named Codiekitty. So, this was my holy grail of sorts.

Despite the fact I was only 11 years old, I managed to join (This was before COPPA, ha ha ha ha) immediately I did some battling in the lone battling topic. But before that, I had a problem; what would I call myself?

Originally I had called myself pokemaster80, however as that represented little to do with myself, and I never liked it much, I picked Metal Mario. However, that name was taken! So I made up the next best thing: Metal Man. Little did I know that there was a character with that name.

Anyway. I'd established a personality in fighting when I realized people thought he was a robot. Then, I discovered Metal Man from Megaman2 was causing this. Never to fear, I thought, I just made a signature with a crossed out picture of that faker that said "I am NOT a robot!".

Many years passed. The message board wasn't enough. I searched again... and found, through the site I went to for Mario information, www.smbhq.com, the RPG I run today. The year was 2002. I found my way onto IRC... but there was a new problem.

First, I added an underscore. But, secondly, for reasons unknown, I added an 88 to the end, as I felt otherwise too bland with just the name Metal Man. Thus my full nickname as I am seen now is shown;

Metal_Man88

And I've kept it ever since. Seeing as pokemaster80 never saw the light of a website, I can safely say I've kept my original username the whole time, with mild alterations.

And just for old times sake..

I am NOT a robot master!

:p

I originally used the nickname "wonka62" or something on my first mail account. Then I started using "Jamo" because it's like my name. One day I was playing some game (with cannonballs i think) and I just randomly decided to stick "sup" on the end. Then, on Incarnation 2 I got banned for being an absolute dumbass. Then, a while later when I was mure smurt I picked an "offensive" name that I didn't know was offensive. Then I changed it to EvilMushroom which stuck for a while. Then when I registered here I decided to reuse my old name for some reason.
tl;dr? You lazy fuck. But wonka62>jamo>jamosup>offensive username>evilmushroom>jamosup. :3

snoball -> hydrapheetz

I'm only mentioning that first one simply because Bloody is going to remember it and mention it somehere .

There's virtually no trace of the first one, too.

Well... I did have a kinda similar thread, so I'll base the info on there somewhat.

I briefly used 'Mirror-Raichu' early on. It quickly was replaced for reasons I'm not sure of. Maybe because I'd gotten it role-playing in a chat room.

Next, and most widely know, is 'theclaw'. Originated from one hand gesture in elementary school. Which formed inspiration for a character called The Claw (don't confuse this with the created wrestler also called The Claw which is based on myself) and it's little known evil opposite, the Anti-Claw.

'theclaw135' is another common one. Simply 'theclaw' with the Pokedex number of Jolteon next to it.

'Star_Amy7' was related in origin to 'Mirror-Raichu'. Only used to masquerade as female, had "her" own GeoCities page and virtually unused e-mail address a while though.

an ooooollld name I had was hydro, from back when I was a Forum n00b at a chao related forum.
afterwards, as I started to branch off, I made up the name "Yishland Dude" which was soon shortened to YD.
Then, getting tired of my older name, I decided to use Kcin, my first name backwards.
But I soon became tired of that as well. AT the time I decided to try to make up a new name, I was in a Chao faze, and my gamecube was always on.
I had turned away from my chao garden, stupidly leaving 2 heart fruits for any chao to eat. I turn around to check on my chao, and my two chao Po-Po-Z and Zeal are mating. So it comes right to me.
Pozeal.
I named the newborn chao that, and dubbed myself that as well.
And thats where my name came from

Mine actually has nothing to do with cynicism. It's based on a silly little thing I did in 9th grade, where I used Resource Hacker to mess with various dialogs in a (failed) attempt to make them witty and rude. The codename was Windows XP Cynic Edition. AND NOW YOU KNOW~

My first username that I ever had was Dragon Master which I came up with when I started screwing around with my name in an boring english class.

And i have been using it as my username for many years but some years after choosing it i found out all the main characters in the lunar games are classified as dragon masters. So I had to make an alternate for when it was taken. And then sebe_dragon was born. Later on I realized it sounded stupid so I made my alternate aoidragon instead. Aoi being the japanese word for blue. And if that is taken to then I just stick in some japanese color instead.

So in short:
Main name: Dragon Master
Alternate: (Japanese name for a color)dragon

And the name I use now? It's a mystery...

Copied from board2 (and edited a bit):

Origin of Name
At first my username for everything was Kevin1012 (Name + Address (I've since moved so 1012=nothing now)) but then on Warcraft 3, I lost my password. So I was trying to come up with a new name, and since I was into X-Men at the time, I decided to use "Night Crawler". However, I couldn't use spaces in my name so I tried Night_Crawler but lo and behold, it was already taken. So I thought "how can I make my name different?" and started to go with numbers, but then I thought "blech, that's so overused, how can I be different?". After thinking of different permutations of the username, I came up with [r] and used that and changed my username to "Night_Crawle[r]". A little while later, I tried using that at some website and it said "no symbols" so I thought "hmm, maybe if I morph my two usernames together..." "bah that username is dumb, I need a new one, but what..." and thus I donned the username NightKev.

Occasionally I will append -NCX7 at the end of my name if NightKev is already taken. I use MorningKev/DayKev if NightKev is already taken now.

Origin of NCX7
When the name NightKev was taken at some website (I forget which), I thought "well crap, now what?" (since I didn't want to add random numbers). Then I thought "hmm, maybe I'll do a different username combination" and so I took the N and C from Night_Crawle[r], added a hyphen prefix, and added "x7 (at the time my favorite number was 7) and so -NCX7 was created.

tl;dr
Kevin1012 --> Night_Crawle[r] --> NightKev
NightKev --> MorningKev/DayKev (when NightKev is already taken)

Misc
Occasionally I'll use one of these usernames as well --> KittyKev/NightKitty (yay catgirl fads)

Commodore 128, which is a computer made in 1985. (Yes, I know it doesn't quite match my layout.)

I used it here because it was the first username I had at Acmlm's when I joined on 5 March 2002, and I was in a "retro" mood when I registered here. I should ask to get it switched back to Kernal...

When I registered at Acmlm's, I didn't want to use my old name of The_Millionaire because I thought it was dumb (it came from the TV show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, which I liked in those days). So I filled in every profile field except the username, then tried to think of one, and remembered that I had a Commodore 128, which I shortened to comm128.

*also remembers hydrapheetz's old name* I always thought it was funny though. Like a ball of sno. Not snow, but sno.

But yeah, now it's Sukasa and it hasn't really changed since.

So... anyone seen my toaster?
----------------------------------------------------

I registered... long long long ago as "Kirby all the way" mainly because Kirby was my current "obsession", and registering as just "Kirby" would be lame and boring. "all the way" sounded like a good afterthought to Kirby, so I took it!

...and registered.

Life was good...

...

A while afterwards, it got shortened to just "KirbyATW", since I didnt like how "Kirby all the way" looked.

...

That eventually just shortened to "KATW" (Go go gadget acronyms!).

One day, I noticed Danielle started calling me "Kattwah". At first I didnt take to it, but after a while it warmed up to me. For the "royalty" fad (or whatever), I had Danielle change me to "King Kattwah".

Soon enough, the fad died away, and I was left with just "Kattwah"

Obviously, I like the name

My first username ever on line was my AOL username back in, like, 1998ish. it was "boo". I have no idea where it came from exactly. I was 8 and probably thought boo sounded cool and AOL just added random numbers because it was taken. Later, it was paulman992 for email addresses. This became paulguy119 when i joined Digitalmzx (A GCS community, one of the first communities I had much involvement in other than the zsnes community, which I was banned from more often than not.) and I recently got it shortened to paulguy there and I use that whenever possible. Otherwise, i just use paulguy119 or paulman120 or some other permutation.
