Has anyone watched any stereoscopic videos or games? I know it's a silly gimmick nowadays but with the right application, it's pretty cool. I know youtube has 3D support through various methods, either hardware supported through a TV or something(shutters, polarizers) or colored glasses.

I was in a 3D cinema once. It was rather amazing. That was before that 3D hype though.

Does the 3DS count?

If so yes. And they're pretty nice.

I went to a I-Max 3D screening of a Nascar movie.

I played a few games with Nvidia 3d, but only the basic mode. The red and blue ended up hurting my eyes after some time, naturally.

imax 3D, realD 3D, Disney Digital 3D, I've seen them all. As for anyglyphic 3D, I've got a pair of those paper red/blue glasses that I use for youtube 3D and any old movie that calls for them. I also have a pair of 2D glasses that came with my DVD of Exit Through the Gift Shop. Oh Banksy, what will you do next?

Maybe if/when 3D becomes cheaper. Even then, it would just stress my eyes. I like 2D myself.

I'd enjoy it if, you know, the 3D wasn't there just to be there.

Instead, 3D shit used to be about how it would PURPOSELY throw things at you, knowing very well it was 3D and doing everything it could do to shove that in your face. Today, whole new perspective. GOTTA BE 3D BECAUSE 3D IS REAL

I don't know how OoT or Starfox are, but given Zelda's camera I would assume moments where the 3D is actually interesting in itself instead of just a random plus are few, unless they did manage to make it work well enough, which wouldn't be surprising but impressive.
In Starfox on the other hand it easilly works incredibly better, as there the action is constantly passing right near the camera.

See the final boss in Yoshi's Island? That was using a relatively new concept to do something awesome and with meaning, to give an image that wouldn't have looked as impressive otherwise, not just a gimmick. In the remake or whatever is it they are doing, I want Bowser to breathe fire to my FACE, and get closer towering above me more intimidating than ever, not "oh look I'm looking at the same I've seen all this time before except cross-eyed!".

But anyways, enough of that offtopic rant... I haven't had the means to actually watch anything in 3D for the sake of enjoying it, just short demonstrations and displays and stuff to see how's it like.

It's weird. I hated the "Throw garbage at screen because OOOH 3D" but the pointless adding of 3D without using it also sucks.

Maybe they need to compromise and stick to the middle instead.

I own a 3D and have seen some 3D movies.

But I still hate the 3D fad because it seems to have become the main selling point for things (instead of, you know, quality of the product)

I think if James Cameron's Avatar showed us anything 3D can totally be used properly in film. Like, you could probably make some really nice and complex images through it but I don't think most cinematographers are familiar with it yet.

I got dragged to The Last Airbender in 3D.

The movie was meh, but the 3D was kind of interesting. I certainly wouldn't pay the extra to see a movie in 3D though. It's not worth the extra money for a 20+ year old gimmick if you ask me.

I don't know about you but from what I heard the 3D in that movie was totally an afterthought. They definitely did not design their sets with 3D imaging in mind which is a huge problem.

What I'm saying is you probably shouldn't measure 3D against that movie especially when (James Cameron's) Avatar set the standard much, much higher a year before. Gotta have perspective!

Same here. RealD seemed to be the clearest picture but had a little less pop-out-at-you effect. Imax 3D offers the best immersion for how drastic the 3D effect seems. The days of red/blue 3D are long gone, thank God. Except for on Youtube, where it lives on

I was so close to getting a 3D TV with our tax return but ended up getting a regular LCD LED TV (wife doesn't like 3D as much as me). But if you haven't had a chance to look through those funky looking bulky glasses at Best Buy, I would suggest you do. The active shutter technique is one of the best out there right now. Viewing angles and the fact that the glasses cost $100 or so don't really help the cause, but it is 10x better than even RealD.

The active 3D's flicker is too noticeable. Very distracting and straining on the eyes.

I'm sure its significantly less flicker than this method:

<object width="640" height="390"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Uef17zOCDb8&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

This would be less of a problem if it ran at a much more reasonable 200Hz instead of the painfully low 120Hz most active-shutter systems use.
