So, I was thinking about - show off something notable about your home city.

First of all, I'm from Adelaide. The resident IRCers have told me that apparently, it looks like Sim City.

We're most famous for the Malls Balls. Controversial a few years back when the city council took away our balls to uh, polish them.

So what's ridiculous/fun about your city?

A disproportionate number of Australians I've known online have been from Adelaide. I wonder why that is. It's not even the largest city in Australia.

As for me, I'm in Seattle No, it doesn't rain 24/7, although cloudy days are common here. Yes, there is a Starbucks on what seems to be every street corner, at least downtown. No, Nirvana are not from here. (They're from Aberdeen, Washington.)

Seattle is the largest city in Washington State and second-gayest city in the US after San Francisco Its tallest building is the Columbia Center, although its most famous building is the Space Needle.

Philadelphia, here.

I'm sure you all saw this one coming. The Franklin Institute is ridiculously awesome as well and it's a damn shame I haven't been there in ages.

Plenty of other good things about as well, although I'll admit I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Las Vegas has quite a few things its well known for. Namely, The Strip. 4 miles of Casinos and Hotels too numerous to list. Each one has its own history of how it started back in their hay-day. It is pretty overwhelming when you first see just how many casinos and lights line the Las Vegas Boulevard.

Next up would be the Hoover Dam. There's a lot to see there and learn about how it came to be and what it does for the city. Something interesting is that the largest portion of the power from the dam goes to California. Nevada is second on the list, followed by Arizona.

There is nothing notable about Rochester, NY at the moment. However, there was this absolute flop. This thing absolutely ruined my city's economy for the two years that it was in service until we had new mayoral elections, where the new kid on the block (current lieutenant governor) cut funding to the service, sold the boat off and fixed the damage the former mayor caused.

Outside of that I can't think of a single thing Rochester is known for outside of the unusually high murder/violent crime rate compared to the rest of the country.

I'm living in Wiesbaden, Germany, a city with apparently a rather rich history (reading the Wikipedia article ).

Being a very old spa town, notable sights are of course the various hot springs, as well as ex. the casino, several churches, the Biebrich Palace, the Neroberg mountain and its funicular. I'm personally rather fond of the Rhine's shoreline in the boroughs along the river - not the most notable or beautiful thing about the city, I guess, but some very nice places to spend some time at.

I'm also a frequent visitor of various flea markets around the city, mainly those at the Real hypermarkets in Biebrich and at Mainzer Straße, which, in my opinion, have a certain kind of nice atmosphere around them, certain sellers who're always there, etc. There's ex. one dark-skinned, African(?) shoe seller, loudly advertising his stuff, proclaiming he's doing "Schwarzarbeit" (a wordplay; that means illegal/unreported employment, with "Schwarz" meaning black ), and an older Russian man, who doesn't appear to speak much German and tends to be selling NTSC-U consoles and games, and stepdown converters. I've often bought stuff off him and we somehow understand each other pretty well - he once asked me if a PSX game (a US Gran Turismo, I think) he had there was compatible with the PS2 (also US) he also had for sale, because if they didn't get sold, he'd want to play some of that later on

Also - which is probably a bit of a weird thing - whenever we've been away on holiday for a while or so, and are on the way back, I on the lookout for mentions of Wiesbaden or the highways around here (namely the A66 and A643) on traffic signs. Gives me this nice and warm feeling of "almost back home".

I'm from Newton, Massachusetts, which as far as I can tell is an okay place. Its only history museum is the Jackson Homestead which is known for being one of the stops in the Underground Railroad. People who are pretty famous from this city include Matt Leblanc of friends fame (the teachers love to rave about having him as a student) and two actors in the U.S. version of The Office, B. J. Novak and John Krasinski. I believe Matt Damon also spent a few of his early years here. The Fig Newton cookie is named after the city and part of Sacha Baron Cohen's 2006 mocumentary comedy film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is filmed in this town rather than in the South as they claim.

Not a particularly interesting place other than being the home of Sigma Sigma Sigma, which I am told has nothing to do with maverick reploids.

I'm from West Chester, PA, part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area and home to West Chester University, where I go to. This is a college town, so more than 50% of the population is below age 25. (38% between 18 and 24)

There's not that much else to say, really ... Oh, the average apartment rent is about 1.5 times that of Philly

Schenectady, New York, about 20 miles outside of Albany... you're probably very familiar with General Electric, which was founded in 1892 in this city. This city is also home to one of the very first FM radio stations (99.5 WGFM, now adult contemporary radio station WRVE, also the very first one to broadcast in FM stereo), as well as the first television station in the USA (WRGB channel 6). General Electric is also the only one of the original twelve companies on the Dow Jones Industrial Average still in existence today, and has been a part of it since 1896.

For you Homestar Runner geeks out there, the ZIP code 12345 is actually in Schenectady, New York too

This is the historic paper mill, Great Northern Paper, the chief industry in my hometown.

It's also shut down, and for a good while now. Now this town is a hellhole!

I took this photo myself when I was out for a walk.

Weyburn, home of Tommy Douglas (the grandfather of Canada's health care policies), and one of the few unionized Walmart stores. Other than that, it's pretty meh.

I'm from Calgary, Alberta! A city sorrounded by wetlands and praries, with beautiful freshwater rivers (the Bow and the Elbow rivers) both of which provide great boating and extremely clean water. We have one of the highest standards of living in the world and we are in a province that contains no rats, and is immune to all natural disasters except river flooding and snow storms. We have the beautiful Fish creek park which is runs through the southern part of the city and is home to a huge variety of animals, this makes animal sightings on the streets very common. We hosted the 1988 olympics (the first canadian country to do so), at our world renouned Canada Olympic Park. We also have almost all of the oil and coal companies headquartered in Calgary, making us a very rich city. We host our very own Stampede, a world famous rodeo/cowboy exhibition that draws competitors from all over the world during the summer and we see millions of people come into town to see our rodeo events and other attractions during that time. We also have some of the worst winter weather in Canada do to our proxmimity to the mountains. And we often see 8 months of winter weather. and 4 months of summer. (no spring or fall it seems.)

Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Pretty much one of the more awesome cities out there. Home to one of the most storied hockey teams of all time. Former home to one of the more maligned baseball teams of all time. We also hosted the Olympics in 1976 and will probably never be allowed to host them again after the massive debt we racked up.

As far as where I specifically live in Montreal... right here. We have a windmill!

That's Commodore International's former home, I think? Place of birth and premature death of the Amiga's AAA architecture... And now home to QVC or some other shopping network...

I'm from Durham, England. Pity Me, specifically, but there is nothing important there, except for New College. Durham is only a quick bus ride out. We have a massive cathedral and a statue in the market. I can't remember what it's about though. Loads of beautiful scenery too.
