Okay so walking home from CVS, I pass by this 7-11 along the way. I have this Visa gift card thing with me with like less than a dollar on it, so I stop by to get an Airhead, right? That's 25 cents, which, I think, would use up the rest of the money on the card so it doesn't go to waste.
It turns out I don't have enough money and this really nice guy behind me in line buys the candy for me. This is super cool even though I didn't actually really want the candy; I just want to use up the money I had left, but he wouldn't take no for an answer and now I have this free blue raspberry Airhead sitting on my kitchen table and a gift card with 14 cents left on it. :J
Have you ever gotten free stuff from a stranger like this? Or have you ever just gotten free stuff from a store in general? ____________________ β Sofi

a few years ago I was at WAL-MART with my then roommate(s), and we were buying a bunch of stuff, among other things a large plastic storage container. in order to fit it in to our cart we had to move a lot of stuff around, so we threw a few things inside the container itself. We sort of forgot this as the clerk rang up the container, not really paying attention probably out of efficiency's sake, and proceeded to put the cover on it and return it to us while scanning the rest of our items. Imagine the look on our face when we got home and had free shampoo.
...I know that last line makes it sound a lot less cool but STILL |

Wow. That Bowser could be worth quite a bit!
I sometimes get discounts and the like if I turn up a bit short at registers. I have also been known to help strangers pay for food, especially at my schools cafeteria. (If you use cash, it is 4 times (!) as expensive than using out ID's) |

...That's the worst fucking cafeteria.
It would be $10 for a slice of pizza if my college did that! As it is, they already rip you off - there's a place easily within walking distance of my house I go to instead. Twice the pizza (usually, but there's ALWAYS more), for 38 cents cheaper ($2.12)... AND it's consistently better!

I'd usually either try to go without a textbook (borrowing it if needed) or by a cheap used copy online rather than paying $walletrape/semester for books from the school store.
I get the books right from the bookstore.
Bear with me, though: It's grant money, and if I didn't do this I wouldn't see the money I saved anyway. By selling the books back, I actually profit far more than I would by saving money at first!
It's ass-backwards, I know. Blame my mother, though.

| The reason it is so much more is so visiting parents have to shell out lots. Also, as things get more expensive, the increase falls dramatically. And finally, it is more by using cash then money not because the price is huge; the discount is just immense. (I can get a bowl of sticky rice for a dollar. Dishes I would get at a Chinese place for 12 bucks i can get for 3) |
