I play it vanilla as well, and in fact the only reason I'm going to try and install a mod is so that I can finish Kokiri Forest within a reasonable amount of time. After it's done, I'm taking out the mod again.

I play vanilla except for all of one (or two) mods. Optimine (because jesus christ my framerate) and at one point I was using bettergrass (makes hills look hella nice.)

Optimine is something I use because my computer is made of sticks and mud. Outside of that, the only mod I really use with frequency is TooManyItems, partly for the right click feature I talked about earlier, and for the trash button. I don't really use it to give myself blocks or items, though I will just give myself water blocks if I'm creating a farm and don't want to waste an hour going back and forth between the water and my house.

I did recently start a "hardmode" world the other day, where Extended 2x2 Grid and Mo' Creatures are installed. Holy shit, the first night is brutal, because you have to punch leaves for saplings to convert to sticks before you can get your first axe. Punching trees no longer works (or at least it's not supposed to, a friend says it does).

Also, I learned a valuable lesson the other day: When finding a place to build a house, don't build it in a place like this. An ogre popped up out of nowhere, wrecked my wall to bits and smashed my floor out. D:

Alright, so I should make a nice running tally of mods I should try out. I'm going to try out more mobs, and I also saw this thing with more liquids that I don't recall the name of.

Also, has anyone tried putting 404 in the random world generator, then digging into the gravel near the spawn point?

Yeah, I tried the 404 challenge. I knocked the gravel about, it fell, but I was still above it for some reason. I jumped down but didn't survive the fall.

How bizarre...I tried creating a new world with 404 as the seed three times, and only on the last attempt did it give me the right one.

That's...really bizarro BMF. Maybe the game didn't like you.

Though I did the 404 challenge once straight and died very, very quickly. I then decided to just kinda pitch torches and explore it just because my spelunking nature got the better of me for a little bit.

Also! I know I haven't been on the server much, but next time we get an update that'll have us expand the world, I'll be back more often to go spelunking and run the store a little more. I don't think my store is too necessary right now, is it?

If so, I'll pop back more. :X

1. Stores aren't necessary right now. Closed mine down a while back.
2. The World is no longer limited to a certain size because...
3. There supposedly is away to add the new blocks to the game, instead of having to find new areas.

404 is a great way to get right down to naturally occurring obsidian.

Believe it or not, I didn't die once getting down there. Pretty amazing thing to watch, and I'm a little surprised something like that would be generated.

Why is it that whenever I try to install Optimine or ModLoader with the latest version, it always redownloads a fresh copy of minecraft.jar even though I delete the META_INF directory every time? It's pretty frustrating.

I'd ask this on the Minecraft forums instead but then it would probably just get lost in "HOW DO I INSTALLED THIS :notch: :notch: :notch:" and "WOW THIS RULES!!!!! MY FPS WENT FROM 300 TO 600 :diamond: :notch: :diamond:"

Ugh, what is the deal with nether portals? I was told that The Nether could function as a quick means of travel... so I set up a portal faaaaaaaaar southwest of my little villa. I already had a portal at my villa and went inside of it. But when I went in my far away portal, I warped back to my villa portal.

So, do I have to actually generate enough nether map chunks for a far away portal to create it's own portal?

Edit: screw it, I just made my own portal in the nether and made a connection to the real world... Too bad where I am doesn't connect that what I wanted.

I'm thinking of doing a stream sometime where once again, I go spelunking on my quest to make my first working portal to the Nether and actually go there!

The spawn area is a range of around 200-400 blocks and seeds don't care a set spawn location so it's random each time.

Found out the problem. No wonder nothing could work. It wasn't something I was doing wrong, but rather this OS's less-than-stellar Java. Swapped a file around, changed a piece of info, and bam. It works!
