Ah screw it I'm hyped for this game.
I can't tell if that's custom and happens to look very close to the SMB3 fire flower sprite, or IS the SMB3 fire flower sprite (close, but isn't, it seems), but that's poorly resized with needless space.

In the former case, you should try doing it 1:1 better to have proper pixels, and 1:2 for easy viewing. Cut off unnecessary canvas, and remember to save it in a lossless format (JPG will destroy it).

I have to say, whoever made the JPEG'd and stretched Mario, there is some room for improvement.

At the very least, if you're going to do pixel art, it's probably a good idea to use consistent sizes for your pixels.

the image linked here has the same filename as the one on DeviantArt
the picture is just being hosted oh photobucket

from what I see here, MS paint is screwing up your images quite a bit,
mainly due to the lack of a uniformed pixel grid and transparency layers.

I unfortunately cannot think of a good suggestion for a pixel art program,
but I would try and find a good one that you are conformable with.

grafx2 is a good, free program for pixel art, with all sorts of cute features.
