I wasn't aware of this until after he was announced.
Even so, I think the reason its a shock is because people weren't expecting him but were at the same time. Its like... they knew Sonic was in but there was a chance that he wouldn't, so they didn't want to believe it until it was announced.

Still, Sonic fits in perfectly with the Brawl world. He has attacks that he used in his other games, he's fast, and will probably bring in a few things that work too (such as items, stage, and more possibly).

This game is just pulling a lot of tricks to stand out, I can tell you that much. I just see it as a game I can have a lot of fun with.

Dude, Dr. Stewart has horns now because of Sega. And have you listened to any of the pilot profile musics with lyrics? The voice acting is terrible, the story doesn't adhere to what Nintendo built (Falcon's a super hero now FTW), several characters now have hair taller than they are, etc.

Player's choice.

If you want to stick to one character and one character only go right ahead. Nobody can stop you from choosing who you want. You can't force people to choose other characters just because its what you want.

So what if online play will have a lot of Sonic players? EVERY game that has multiplayer has THE SAME PROBLEM. You will ALWAYS have people choosing one thing and one thing only. When I play Halo 2 at my friend's house the only map they choose is Lockout. When I played my brother on Dead or Alive he always chose Kasumi. When I play with people I know on Melee they choose one character and I end up fighting the same character each time on Final Destination with no items and stock while I'm changing my characters around.

No matter what game, what genre, whatever, you will always have people that stick to one strategy and one strategy only. Whether you like it or not, its going to happen anyway.

Amen cuppy.

Also, with Melee, I use Marth and a few others but thats about it. When I want to rape, I play Marth.

Now, I'm going to be using Sonic alot for obvious reasons, but I'm sure that since balance seems to be a key factor in this version that he is going to have some downsides (Anyone notice a lack of double jump?) that will make him a speedy powerful but tedious to learn and perfect character.

Now on to the topic of items and levels. Every character gets one or two added to the brawl. What do you think Sonic will bring item and level wise?

Green Hill Zone 99% chance.
Rings that up defense (Or something else).
Speed shoes (Like Bunny Hood but not JUMPING MADNESS).
Casino level...Hopefully the one from Sonic 3.
And my last guess is a bubble shield that does different things.

That spring looks neat though, I hope it's something that's throwable and then you jump on it.

Holy Crap! Why did I bypass reading this thread today? Ironically, some nut on gameFAQs said "Sonic in brawl FTW" in an otherwise empty of intelligence post, and I thought "Probably not"... Right before I saw this. Hah. And also, Mega Man would be the perfect additional cameo, he just fits. I'd say a Castlevania guy would be good, but Konami already has a representative, Snake.

It can't be final. There are 21 characters revealed so far and there's barely enough room on the screen for them. Plus, there are characters we know are in but not confirmed yet, like Captain Falcon, Sheik, and Ganondorf. Plus there's an Animal Crossing character of some type coming.

Not only that, but there's no way Sakurai would reveal all the characters before the release.

His recovery is freaking high, but from that video he does that flip thing like in the GBA series, so it must not be that fast moving left or right after using it.
