| This is a community project for creating a level editor for F-Zero X. The game is a long-time favorite of plenty of people, and the existence of a Japan-only editor for the game has only made it a prime target for countless individuals who want to get their hands on some custom tracking action. I, Guy Perfect, am heading this project as a coordinator of events and manager of assignments. I am the producer, if you will: the master of ceremonies. I have created and released a fully-featured editor for this game in the past, so I am confident in the team's ability to produce something even better this time around. While I am personally capable of following through with this project all by myself, the main purpose of the project is not to make a level editor for F-Zero X. That is its goal, but the purpose is to get this long-time ROM hacking community working together in order to create something great with our combined talents. This community has never seen a successful project of this kind before, so I'm very interested to see how we do. Having said that, this is an open project. If you are interested in helping out, just say so! There's plenty to do that doesn't even involve the hacking of ROMs. Heck, there's even plenty that has nothing to do with programming. So whatever it is you're good at, we're sure to find a way for you to contribute to the project in your own way. Let us know if you want to join in. __________ While knowledge of programming is not specifically required for participation, it would be much appreciated and of great use. * The new editor will be programmed in C. Not C++, which means some programming techniques won't be available. * A custom license will be drafted for the source code. It will NOT be licensed under the GNU GPL. The new license will effectively release the source code to the public domain for any non-commercial purpose and will not require the source code of any derived works to be made available. * The project will be targeted for Microsoft Windows, and Linux using X Window System (which practically all Linux desktop environments use). I've already got code to let that happen, so this part of the project won't be too time-consuming. * The graphical portion of the project will be done with OpenGL. If you've never done any 3D programming before, this is a great opportunity to dive in! * There's plenty of other stuff to do if you're not a programmer. |
