I'm using Firefox 3.6.1. I'm not interested in the 4.0 prototype because I usually don't use WIP versions of software unless it has something that the "stable" build doesn't have. AFAIK, there isn't anything in 4.0 that I need right now, so I'm sticking with 3.6.1.

...Do they even update their damn systems?

Even more curious, what are those systems... even like? (hardware-wise, that is, if you know)

#59
I have Internet Explorer 6, on a nice quad core from 2009 But that's because I don't use it, and would rather stay on Windows XP than move on to Vista or 7 ...

Firefox 3.5.16 here (3.6 at work, and I'll probably update it to 4.0 once it comes out), and Opera 10.53 as a second browser (but rarely used)

Why are you forced to used such an old and outdated browser?

A lot of corporate setups don't let you install things or access the inter/intranet unless you have the right browser. It is one of those enterprise things.

I use Firefox, personally. I'd use Safari if it had a no-fuss solution of the calibre of noscript, adblockplus and downthemall, though.

Yeah, but if he's using IE6, he's using hardware that hasn't been updated in years. That's what's strange to me. I mean, I understand corporations are cheap, but still.

Hm? XP is in use at a lot of places still- the companies often have corporate images they'll install on each computer. Easy to see how that could lead to even new computers ending up with IE6 stuck on...

It is not so much cheapness as making sure you have identical setups running. Personalisation is the devil, you see.

Mmm, good point. Forgot that XP (which is what he's probably using) comes with IE 6 by default.

XP works just great on cutting edge hardware, so I'm not surprised if the hardware is new.

And for those worried about RAM, XP x64 is there.

Although I'm not sure how stable it is generally... (I'd take it over 7 x64 in a heartbeat, though)

From what I've heard, XPx64 is plagued with compatibility issues.

(Win7 is not so bad, I must say)

Paulguy's Post configuration
I am currently stuck with chromium. I installed firefox but it doesn't run. No errors or anything. Even deleted ~/.mozilla, tried -safe-mode and -no-remote. Nothing, no errors, not even to standard error or standard output.

So, I need to figure out chromium's user stylesheets, which it seems to have, as well as some solution to noscript.

There also should be some kind of daemon that runs and updates /etc/hosts with lists of ad sites so it's global and handled by the network stack, so it's not tied to 1 browser. Maybe like uh... what's that thing that blocks known riaa IPs so they can't catch you downloading music?

Firefox 3.6. It took me a long time to switch from IE to Firefox, and it will probably be a long time before I switch again

Also, at my last job, I had to use IE6 too. I think a lot of companies still use it, which makes me wonder why some popular websites are "phasing IE6 out".

Chrome for browsing, forced to use IE6 for some web applications at work. Chrome really is the fastest browser out there. It has no excess fluff or bells and whistles, just straight up web browsing.

Not so much anymore, as long as you avoid old (pre-2005) hardware.

Actually, despite being old, XP x64 works better today than it did before, due to proper driver support. It was too far ahead of its time before.

Now you can do x64 web browsing and Flash... which is quick.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
