![]() I noticed these graphics for Gumshoe on the Nes that I don't recall ever seeing in the game. The first two look like power ups of some kind. The bat is probably an enemy that likely would've been in the jungle level based on where his sprites are stored. I've tried playing through the game a few times to find him, but he never seems to appear. Not in the second quest with harder enemies, nor does he appear in any of the 'extended' areas. (In each level if you gather a certain number of balloons, I'm unsure how many exactly, the levels will usually expand to an extra area, for example the desert in the first stage.) The purse I suspect may have been linked to the alligator enemy, since it looks like a leather skinned purse. Perhaps the alligator would've changed into that if you killed it, the way the bird enemies turn into roast chicken? It is possible to kill the alligator in the fourth level if you shoot it enough times, but it didn't turn into the purse when I did so. Unless there's some other method you're supposed to do. That weird looking graphic on the far right was stored with the purse graphics, though I don't know how it pieces together. It kind of looks like a tail, thus making me believe even more that they're related. Also there's a track in the game that while it isn't used in Gumshoe, is used in the Vs arcade version. Its track 3 on the nsf. It plays as the second level theme (rooftops) instead of the one in the home version. I don't recognize track 8 as playing anywhere in either game. ![]() This gangster is found in the rom for Vs Gumshoe. I played through that and never saw this guy either. Most of the time the VS versions had added content over their home counterparts. (VS Ice Climber had added stages, VS Excitebike and VS Duck Hunt had bonus rounds, etc.) Maybe this gangster was supposed to appear in a bonus round of some sort? Looks like he would've lost his pants if you beat him? If anyone has any info on these things appearing in the game I'd appreciate it. Its possible they're not unused, just really well hidden. Gumshoe is a pretty obscure game so they might just not be known about. |
