I tried Ubuntu.

I could run everything I did before, but it was pointless.

All I was doing is using WINE!

I tried Linux. Hated it. Switched back to Windows XP the next day.

I suspect you may have passed that already.

My girlfriend used Windows 3.1 until 1999 or 2000... then Windows 95 until 2006 when she finally got a new machine with XP

I can use Ubuntu as a main OS no problem.

I just need to figure out replacements for everything I use. I'm trapped on Windows for the moment, though - I need Flash CS4.

Basically, all I did was steal all of Windows 98's dlls to make it all work.

It was buggy, though.

I recently installed the Ulead PhotoImpact and VideoStudio that came with my camera last year but forgot about

Still going to keep VirtualDub, GIMP and Inkscape around though

GIMP took me forever to learn, but I finally got the hang of... a few parts of it.

I only used Wine for mIRC, since I needed something in its setup for another server.

Lunar Magic too, but that was only once or so.

I sucked at GIMP. Most distros don't come with a simple Paint-like image program, only a Photoshop-level app.

The secret is that most of the Paint-like actions are only possible with holding control and other odd key combinations.

Really all I can use practically in terms of image editors nowadays is Paint Shop Pro 4, I'm so accustomed to all of its little odd points I get annoyed when another programs acts differently. (Except for the clipboard issue... multiple undos is amazing)

Couldn't really figure out GIMP either. Uninstalled it afterwards.

This means my best image editor is plain Paint, but still...

Yeah, and I had not known that secret

Plus having a jillion windows around was confusing for me.

Maybe you can take the old .exe from XP and run it in 7?

Inkscape is pretty easy to use, but then again, it's the only vector graphics editor I've actually used

I have Fony around for bitmap fonts, XnView for obscure image types, and some other graphics editors

Edit: pretty much keep GIMP around nowadays only for image conversion and generation
