I use a combination of my mIRC to alert me and Thunderbird for email.

Thunderbird kind of sucks for email, though.

I use the iOS email client, nowadays.

For a while I used Thunderbird, then Mail on OS X when I used that for a while.

Years ago, I had a webmail account with my old Web host, which was a pain to access. I had to log into cPanel, click on the E-mail area, tell it that I wanted to check my actual E-mail address and not the default "webmaster" address, and type in my password. All on dialup.

AOL's "You've Got Mail" is something I still hear daily, since my mother insists on using it.

The new email sound I remember it having was just a simple click.

We never had any of the big old online services, just a no-name local ISP (Great Lakes Internet) until I started getting cable and DSL.

Don't really remember that... I'm far more familiar with "YOU'VE GOT MAIL!" from AOL

Yea, I pretty much use Gmail anyway for my email... rarely get spam either, but it's annoying trying to email someone and not getting a response

Few people used Compuserv. Those unlucky enough to use it would get booted off the internet for random reasons like "You have been on for 1234 minutes. We have decided to kick you off. Please reconnect."

Also, the software was an evil kludge that ate RAM.

GMail is the way to go.

Unless you have your own email server like I do. Then you can have a horribly messed up email address.

I remember that with dialup in general. Oops, you were inactive, you get kicked off and have to hear that annoying screech again if you want to go back on.

I started using Gmail in 2006.

And yeah, it does feel like i've been a bit longer here... Though i was actually surprised to discover i've been here longer than krutomisi!

It also seems like a lot of people join solely for ROM Hacking at first. Like me. I started of with a huge bump in a thread about hex editors. :v

I'd get disconnected so much, IRC chatrooms would tell me to leave until main sessions happened--my disconnects were flooding out the chat.
