Can you believe that gorgeous fluffy calico is a stray we took off the street? And I learned what a polydactyl cat is because of her.

The reason Hermes won't come out from under the futon is because of Trinket (the orange and white female that keeps jumping on the futon to get the light). She doesn't like Hermes for some reason and they fight if he tries to come out from under there when she's let out of her bedroom. Trinket has to be kept locked in her bedroom at night and when we're away so that Hermes can come out to eat, use the litterbox, and play. They share time on the weekends.

She has a pretty big room, though. I jokingly call it "the luxury suite".

I have a very old dog, and a very old cat. Said cat really should have died by now; he has a tumor and had problems walking, never mind all the problems he had when he was younger, such as his urine crystallizing in his urethra, stopping him from peeing, thus causing him to go through TSS. For about a month. However, to spite us and Death himself, a family trait, he has decided NOT to die, and is currently curled up under my desk.

Cats can appear to be fat, but usually they just have a really good coat of fur. Only way to know is to actually pick one up.

(That is, if the cat will actually let you and not try to bite you depending on your technique while picking up said cat... I've learned my lesson there.)

Yeah, Mel actually isn't as big as she looks. She's just under 12 lbs, which is normal for a cat of her size. She just has a lot of underbelly fluff that makes her look hilariously huge and fluffy when she's lying on her back.

I also like her "Lucky Neko" arm position in that picture.

I'm sorry to hear that

Just imagine him in kitty heaven, with all the funnest toys and yummiest food and warmest sunny spots That's what I did for our cat.

As a side note, I suggest adopting a kitty when you decide you're ready to welcome another fuzzy family member, for many reasons.

My mom and I went to the pet store today, and happened across, seriously, the smartest budgie ever. Natural colored male. They have a divider separating two groups of budgies apart, and since their wings are clipped can't fly. He manages to be the only one to know to get to the top of the big wheels they have for both sides, jump and fly (so I guess superjump ) up the the top of the divider, then jump down to the other side. Did it four times when we were observing them.

I really wanted him but the house isn't ready for a bird for another couple months.

There was also another one that, while he seemed healthy and alert, looked so scraggly and small and his plumage was just sucky. I nicknamed him Runt and also wished to have him to make him a not runt.

And that sucks Arp. I'm sure he was very happy to be in your family for so long.
