I discovered the end of the numbers. Basically, a number that is so big, there are no other numbers that are bigger than it. Let's call it J. Conversely, -J is the smallest possible number.

J + 1 = J
J - 1 = J - 1

-J + 1 = -J + 1
-J - 1 = -J

nJ = J
J/n = J/n

J^n = J
J^(1/n) = J^(1/n)

When you think about it, J is a lot better than infinity:
f(x) = x^2
g(x) = x^3

When x = infinity, f(x) != g(x) even though they both evaluate to "infinity".

However, when x = J, f(x) == g(x), because they both evaluate to J. Less confusing!

There is still some debate as to whether J + 1 = -J, and -J - 1 = J, but J + 1 = J is the commonly accepted behavior.

So yeah, suck on that, Pythagoras.

Nah, I think you've got it. In the computing world, there is a such thing as a number that's too big to have any bigger numbers than it, and the same thing for small numbers. In the end though, the IEEE floating-point infinity ends up being finite, so you could classify it as J.

No, because (3*2) + 1 != 3 * (2+1). If you're obeying normal number laws, you'd recognize that J must be commutative with normal numbers over the same operations.

Thus my logic still stands.

J needs to be evaluated before anything else is evaluated, save for maybe things in parenthesis.

J + (-J) + 1

The 1 gets cancelled out before the Js cancel each other out. I'd need to do a little more research, but the order of operations would likely be changed like PJEMDAS, or something similar.

Thus, if you adhere to the proper rules of J:

J + (-J) + 1 = J + (-J)
0 = 0
