Can't say I'm surprised, they have done so in the past with all their updates. I can't really comment on if I like the new layout or hate it as I have not looked into it yet, but I'm sure many other users here have more explosive thoughts about it. (At least that's how it usually goes. )

I'm not a fan of how the subscriptions are on a seperate (virtual) page now, but I guess that's for people who have a bajillion subscriptions who post frequently. You know, the people who aren't me.

Other than that, meh. There's really nothing I can say other than the fact that I knew this was going to be mandatory eventually.

Big companies such as Youtube, Twitter, etc follow a simple procedure for rolling out new designs:
1) Create new design, which includes some obvious bugs and/or lacks a lot of functionality compared to the current one and has few if any improvements.
2) Apply it as "beta", sometimes offering the option to switch to it, but usually setting it as default and offering the option to switch back.
3) See how users respond. If they like it, go to step 4. If they hate it, go to step 4.
4) Remove the old design, wait a year or so, and go to step 1.

I kind of like the new design, actually. I can view all my subscriptions (without having to see when they favorite x video) and have them nicely separated by author. They even gray out after I have watched them!

Since I only used the old layout for the subscription box, I have no gripes.

I usually just go to the specific Subscriptions page, so it's no big deal. The greying out would be useful if it ever remembered which subscriptions I've viewed. Also if it didn't put subscription videos in for people I've unsubscribed from months ago.

I view the main page every once in a while, but mostly to see whether I got new video comments or in case there's something interesting in recommended videos ...

It's still too soon for me to say it sucks, but it definitely has some problems And when I look back at how it was 2 years ago, I still think that was better ... except it had bugs back then, too

Thanks! I need to make a big, long, pissy rant about this! Well, long insofar as my posts go anyway.

YouTube, I do not give one half of a flying donkey fuck about what is popular, trending, or whatever other hotdamned bullshit you want to feed down my throat. I do not give a fuck about what people are doing there outside of the people I want to look at, or the videos I search for because I specifically want to see something. Case in point, just look at what I have to deal with on my front page last time I visited! It's Most Popular Videos, the section that's stuck and I can't do anything about!



Will someone tell me why, just looking at the titles and seeing the preview image, that I am supposed to watch these videos? Maybe I don't want to watch them because a bunch of people watched them already. Maybe I just want to watch that Xenophage fatality demo again, but no, you have to shove them right in my face.

It's a mixed bag, and the first major design change that's really somewhat for the worse.

I like having things separated by user, but the page layout itself... is kinda eh.

Really, what seems kind of funny to me is that they keep going to such lengths to prevent video downloaders from working. I mean...
  • They never succeed. The programs get updated almost immediately to work again. All they manage is to annoy those using them.

  • I still have to find the video and watch at least some of it to see if it's even worth saving. Not like I'm stealing teh internets by bypassing the entire site. (Whereas that's pretty much what embedded videos do, and they built that in themselves.)

  • Sometimes I want to watch a video again. Most of the ones I've saved I watch over and over. Would they really prefer I go back to the site and stream the whole thing again, or save the bandwidth and only download it once? Seems to me they should encourage downloading - it'd help significantly reduce their bandwidth usage from people rewatching videos. (And half the time I go back and the video's been removed for some stupid reason anyway, if a reason is even stated. Or even just the ID has been changed for some reason - you find it later and it's the same video, same comments and all, but a different URL, removed from all your playlists, etc.)


I don't use the front page much either - nearly every time I go there it's either someone linking to a video or using the search bar in Firefox. So these changes don't affect me much. Of course they tend to be accompanied by equally retarded changes to the video page. Hey, let's make the descriptions hidden away under some collapsible box, so even fewer people will read them before commenting "it's fake" when the description clearly explains why it looks fake and/or offers proof it isn't, and other such nonsense.

Personally, I have no problems with the main YouTube website at all. It works perfctly for me.

My two main problems are that 1) The YouTube iPhone app/website is a pile of crap that undo's the loading it has done when I try to move the play bar back and 2) The embedded videos don't work on some websites, MetConst being a fantastic example of this.

There is a good reason for that last one Zero One, certain forums don't allow code, so there for they add their own embed code when someone put a url (this is just stupid IMO though) and the code they use are most likely very outdated. :p

Everything is functional, so there's a plus; also I can finally see my inbox at the top of the page again. Though this new design seems really unorganized. Everything is just listed there and if you missed something yesterday you wanted to see, you either scroll down to just barely find it or too bad, it's gone now. I liked the old subscription box because I could always see new material, I don't care about recent activity at all really. Also, all that shit on the right, trending etc., has to go. Nothing too bad, but a little unorganized compared to older designs. :/

Also, it still isn't forced on everyone. I cleared my cache last night and now I don't have it. I know soon I will keep it for good but, meh.
