I'm looking through a lot of my old writings just in case I can use it for my current project and I come across a journal entry which gave me the idea for this thread.

What I wrote was the first time that I saw snow:

January 9, 2003

Harry Potter is on the TV. Oh and it's snowing! Very light but its snowing nonetheless. And you know what, it isn't even that cold either. I ran outside with jeans, a no sleeve shirt and my coat. I even wrote Anya in the snow.

Do you remember any of your firsts?

First time seeing snow at 23? Wow, you didn't travel very far north much, huh? I think I was 5 or 6 the first time I saw snow. We drove up to visit my brother in Georgia one time and I remember there being snow.

I never had a journal so I can't give an exact entry but I'll go off of memory for a few.

The first time I drove a real car, I had nothing to go off of except for playing the racing games at arcades... So when I put the car in drive I floored the pedal, lurching forward for a few seconds before realizing you don't have to slam the pedal. Gave my dad a heart attack. I was 13 and we were on the community road in front of our house.

First time kissing a girl, it was April 23, 2006 just after midnight. She's now my wife, and that was on her prom night. I had puppy-love girlfriends in late elementary and middle school but that consisted of holding hands and sitting next to each other at lunch or on the bus.

Seeing your newborn child for the first time, I watched the entire birth on December 24, 2008. I won't go in to graphic details but it is very moving. I was chocked up and tearing so much I couldn't help count when she had to push. Its quite the rush of emotions you never thought you would feel.

I think I saw snow when I was 0, living in Michigan and all. I was born in the summer, so I'd guess I was 5-6 months old.

My first message board post, if I'm not mistaken, was at Challenge Games (of Zelda Challenge: Outlands fame) in January 2002 when they still had an IkonBoard. I was asking about SMB1 hacking.

My first time visiting another country was around 1993 when we drove across Ontario to get from Buffalo (where we had just moved) to Detroit (where the family is). I was surprised at most signs being English; for some reason, I had thought that all of Canada spoke only French I also learned what a kilometre is.

My first time visiting another continent was in March 2008 when I flew to Germany to start a semester of school abroad. My first day, I got little sleep and then took a walk around the hotel in Frankfurt, and the police stopped me because they thought that I was drunk.

The first time I saw PDA between members of the same sex wasn't until 2009, AFAIK, when I visited Seattle for the first time. I grew up in really conservative areas, for the most part

When I first saw snow, my first response was to pee my initials in it. It is a rite of passage for young men, something this generation sorely lacks. Be a man (or a woman) just put your name on it!

I've left my initials in concrete sometimes. Never snow and never by peeing, though

Certainly a Sophoclean tragedy!

I first saw snow when I was about 5-6 years old. It is in fact one of my first memories. We went up by the observatory and it was full of snow, and I of course had to pick some up. It was very cold, obviously.

It wasn't much older when I first swam.

I first played video games somewhere around age 4/5, I played SMB on the NES.

I threw my first ninja star at about 12 years old, and at the same time shot some of my first BB gun shots and threw real darts at things. Oddly, my aim with ninja stars is vastly better than with darts.

I first began programming stuff in original flavor C when I was 10 years old.

I first hit a bully back in anger about at 7 years old.

My first boombox I got at about 10 years old. It is still here.

My first internet voyage was about the year 1998, in the Summer. It is recorded in my ancient school log.

I joined my first message board in the year 2000, then an IRC chatroom in 2002.

I began drinking tea at 8 years old, coffee at 10.

I met the first celebrity in person (other than incidental coincidences) when I was 10, at CBS Studios--Dick Clark. (This gives me a Bacon Number of 2, I was a second alternate on Challenge of the Child Geniuses II.) My first digital camera (with a whopping .5 megapixel resolution) was given to me by Dick Clark at this time.

I began playing the Clarinet somewhere at age 10 or 11. I also began studying kickboxing at this time.

It was 1996 or 1997 when I began collecting Beanie Babies, not that I collect them anymore. They totally have become boring and 'normal' vs. the ancient ones, where you had to search people out just to get any of them. They used to cost all kinds of absurd prices.

My first laptop is also my last laptop. I hate laptops forever. It cost me $1400 and died under a year, even with a warranty helping to service it!
