It's around 80 degrees all year in Puerto Rico and a lot of houses also lack air conditioning, Terra

We are very used to it to the point that 80 is not bad at all and a fan is enough to sleep well at night.

The "house" that I stayed in when I was in PR didn't have air and it was summertime. I didn't mind it too much since I grew up in a trailer without A/C until mu father got me a mini A/C just for my room.

Ahh, I think A/Cs are a waste of money here in Puerto Rico, especially if you live in the north. The temperature rarely hits the 90s and the all time record high is about 96! Plus, it rains almost every day, so it never feels "too hot".

It's odd for me when I hear that houses up north don't have a/c but it does make sense.

I don't know, even here in Massachusetts AC comes in handy during the summer...

Yep, the northern US does tend to get summers in the 90s or so, even though the winters are often snowy and cold It's not a 365-day meat freezer. And since people aren't used to the heat, they want AC a lot more than the Floridians and Puerto Ricans do

That's what I figured, too, Terra.

Fun fact: Despite the fact that we're used to the heat, if it merely touches the 90s we start complaining about the heat as it very rarely gets that hot.

I suppose someone coming to the USA from north-central Siberia would complain about anything above 60 degrees

I keep the a/c on 70 for the most part. In the winter or when it gets super cold, I'll have the heat on up to 80.

Now -that- I didn't expect; heaters in Florida?

I guess if the temperature falls to uncomfortable lows but still ...

The a/c unit also has a setting for heat.

I woke up this morning, and surprise! It was still raining. It has barely stopped since I came here, this is so inconvenient

The town's at risk of flooding (we live by a river)

I don't think it'll affect me much, though, I live in a rather high altitude (especially when compared to the town)

According to the newspaper today, it may or may not snow here, at some undisclosed time. Otherwise it has been very rainy around here, and I love it.

Oh wow. Point Alpha, the historical outpost between the Western and Eastern Bloc, collapsed due to excessive snow.

They're hoping to at least recover some of the historical items, but apparently, it's not looking too well. That message shocked me.

Oh god, is it really still that bad in Europe? I knew it had gotten bad but since all just disappeared from the news, I thought it had gotten better.

We got excessive amounts of snow at Christmas, which even old people here have never seen before. All that snow puts quite a pressure on the buildings.

They needed two days to clean up the primary road, as a matter of fact.

EDIT: should also mention that almost every city in Germany ran out of salt. And it seems like soon the states will run out of salt as well, which means the freeways can't be cleaned up either. This already happened in Lower Saxony and caused the traffic to completely collapse.

Also, large parts of central Germany had no electrical power for three days because of the snow.

I just hope it starts to warm up soon. I'm pretty sure everyone is tired of the cold.
