Most notably:

-Time Capsule (known quantity)

-totally different Contest system with five negative stats as well as the five positive ones

-very early development sound test

Welcome to the POKéMON CABLE CLUB

Welcome to the POKéMON CABLE CLUB

Welcome to the POKéMON CABLE CLUB
TIME CAPSULE.

Simpler lines for the trade center/Colosseum, and a Time Capsule. All near the start of the game's text, just under the test messages; presumably very early.

You like the @
-type POKéMON

We're making preparations.
I'm a pseudo-GYM LEADER for
interviews.
Ready for a test battle.

Warp to BATTLE TOWER.
Warp to LILYCOVE.

Some debugging functions and text that looks like it should be used but isn't due to a more specific message in the final.

There is something in the way above.
DIVE can't be used here.

Looks like it should be used, but in the final game Dive isn't usable except at certain spots.

There appears to be nothing here...

No idea. For all I know, it might have some obscure use. However, from its location, I'd guess it's attached to free-use of Dive.

By the way, about your @, it seemed to be friendly with=@'s @.
I may even have seen it receiving a piece of MAIL.

Found with Daycare text. Link Day-Care, perhaps?

HUGE block of Contest text. NONE of this is used! (well, maybe a couple lines of the main block; haven't bothered with G3 Contests in a while.) Seems far more complex. Perhaps less stupidly dull, even.

This is the other big find. It's the text for a very comprehensive debug sound test. Suggests that a lot of battle music was composed, most of it unused. It'd be nice if GlitterBerri or someone could translate the romanji to see if there's anything hinting at areas or events which aren't in the final game.

While on this subject: anyone with actual GBA hacking ability up to trying to find code for either the old Contest system or the sound test?

I think I recognize most of the contest text. Remember, gen 3 contests were a lot more different (and complicated) than gen 4.

The rest of that stuff looks interesting, though!

Yeah, looking back I recognize a lot too. There's still a ton that's unused, though. I'm CERTAIN that the five negative attributes aren't in the final!

Pokemon Festa 2002 Route 104 and Flower Shop text - not sure about where it starts/ends, tho, might've missed some of it; the first few lines below might also still be part of the Battle Tower text above it:

Oh? You look like a good TRAINER.
Will you look at my POKéMON?
I'm not good enough for you.
I enjoyed our battle very much.
Please battle with me some other time.
Go!
Go, our POKéMON!
Oh... We couldn't win.
Did it surprise you that two POKéMON
battled at the same time?
You can't battle with us if you have
only one POKéMON.=Why? Because we're strong!
Hey, hey! This is my first battle in
a while. I'll give it my all!
But I gave it my all...
You're far too strong!
You must be a great TRAINER!
My POKéMON are extremely cute and
extremely strong.=Please allow me to show you.
I must concede defeat.
After all, you are strong.
The next time we meet, I will have raised
my POKéMON much more.
Don't expect mercy then!
We HIKERS are always full of energy!
My POKéMON are also full of energy, too.=We're always itching for a battle!
We ran out of energy...
Wahahah! Sure, we lost!
But we had a great battle, didn't we?=We're satisfied with that!
You look like a strong TRAINER,
but can you beat us?
Waaah!
We lost!
If two POKéMON can battle at the same
time, all sorts of new things can happen.
Do you only have one POKéMON that can
battle?
Then we can't battle with you yet.
Have you tried beating all the other
TRAINERS in battle?
Thanks for coming today!
I hope you're looking forward to this
game's release!
Huh? Did you battle with all the
TRAINERS already?
Thank you for coming today!
I hope you're looking forward to this
game's release!
I've never seen the POKéMON you have.
It makes me envious a little.
Look at all those TRAINERS!
They have different POKéMON, too.=And they're all waiting for you!
Welcome to the World of POKéMON!
May all POKéMON battles be bright,
fun, and ferocious!
I have to stay home today.
My big sisters had to go out.
They said it was for preparations.
In the autumn, we're going to start
a flower shop. Please wait for it!

Eh, my guess would be "PAN" translates to "Pan" here, as in pan left/right. Some kind of effect test?

Yeah, I was thinking that.

I also need to post the different order of Hoenn Pokemon as extrapolated from the internal list order...

The sound test is old news and has even been activated before. Emerald also has it, which is hillarious because it even has the song names from the nonsensically-included, entire soundtrack of FireRed/LeafGreen that somehow ended up in the game. The song names are probably just the name of the MIDI files themselves. As for the possibility of unused battle songs, who knows honestly. I have hacked and researched the music in various Gamefreak games to hell and back, especially the Pokemon series (and as of late, thanks in part to a friend's urgency/observations, Drill Dozer) and found plenty of curiosities, so its not above them to have unused musical elements...

FireRed/LeafGreen had three unused instrument samples, some of which eventually ended up in Drill Dozer. Also Electivire's cry is a Drill Dozer sound effect ;x

FireRed also has three songs which are programmed twice in to the game--the Viridian City music, Mt. Moon, and Viridian forest. These songs are stored immediately before the Sevii Island music (specifically, the three tracks from Pokemon Gold/Silver), and I believe are actually used when these songs appear on the islands as opposed to the song number used for these tracks elsewhere in the game. This very heavily implies the Sevii islands were going to have an additional town song, as well as a cave and possibly forest theme that were either axed or never came to be, while these tracks were used as placeholders and eventually just stayed there.

Edit: I believe a second "follow me" and gym song is also stored with these, meaning they too were also re-used filler. What they had planned to actually put in these is beyond me...my best guess is probably additional Gold/Silver songs.

Soundtrack's been dumped; I was noting that, assuming the numbers were continuous, there was a lot of battle music which was passed over entirely. It's not ingame, though.

Glad to hear it's been activated! Post the AR code/patch so we can get it onto the wiki?

FRLG stuff is interesting... Also, wow at the Vire cry.

Pokemon Festa 2002 Route 104 and Flower Shop text - not sure about where it starts/ends, tho, might've missed some of it; the first few lines below might also still be part of the Battle Tower text above it:

Oh? You look like a good TRAINER.
Will you look at my POKéMON?
I'm not good enough for you.
I enjoyed our battle very much.
Please battle with me some other time.
Go!
Go, our POKéMON!
Oh... We couldn't win.
Did it surprise you that two POKéMON
battled at the same time?
You can't battle with us if you have
only one POKéMON.=Why? Because we're strong!
Hey, hey! This is my first battle in
a while. I'll give it my all!
But I gave it my all...
You're far too strong!
You must be a great TRAINER!
My POKéMON are extremely cute and
extremely strong.=Please allow me to show you.
I must concede defeat.
After all, you are strong.
The next time we meet, I will have raised
my POKéMON much more.
Don't expect mercy then!
We HIKERS are always full of energy!
My POKéMON are also full of energy, too.=We're always itching for a battle!
We ran out of energy...
Wahahah! Sure, we lost!
But we had a great battle, didn't we?=We're satisfied with that!
You look like a strong TRAINER,
but can you beat us?
Waaah!
We lost!
If two POKéMON can battle at the same
time, all sorts of new things can happen.
Do you only have one POKéMON that can
battle?
Then we can't battle with you yet.
Have you tried beating all the other
TRAINERS in battle?
Thanks for coming today!
I hope you're looking forward to this
game's release!
Huh? Did you battle with all the
TRAINERS already?
Thank you for coming today!
I hope you're looking forward to this
game's release!
I've never seen the POKéMON you have.
It makes me envious a little.
Look at all those TRAINERS!
They have different POKéMON, too.=And they're all waiting for you!
Welcome to the World of POKéMON!
May all POKéMON battles be bright,
fun, and ferocious!
I have to stay home today.
My big sisters had to go out.
They said it was for preparations.
In the autumn, we're going to start
a flower shop. Please wait for it!

I did work on a hack a few months ago to recreate the Festa demo http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?id=10369 Might get around to posting that ips file at some point

I don't have a code or anything on hand but I know I probably have notes on it since I remember playing with it as far back as a few years ago. I'll dig through my hacking stuff a little later and see what I can come up with.

Started on sorting out used text from the contest block. If a line is removed, tell me WHERE, specifically, it's seen ingame.

Debug function. Loading external save files?

This might not be a debugging function. The text here sounds like it's supposed to modify the save game to load events. On old Pokémon Edition, they would hook up a game boy with a special cartridge that would then perform an update of save data to give items etc.

Basically, there could be code at the startup checking for a game link cable plugged in. Then it would start communicating and check if the other end is a special cartridge and boot into a different menu to edit the save. However, from my understanding, a system like this was not employed outside of Japan for Pokémon Events.

I'm pretty sure most of these, if not all, are used.

Most of them are, but it's a huge block of largely obscure text and so I want proof that a line in fact appears ingame.

I'm fairly sure that entire block of Contest text was used in-game. Gen III contests were very involved (and thus actually fun to play unlike Super Contests). I played them a hell of a lot, and I'd swear on my life almost all of that text is used.

Most of it is used- but there's a line referring to moves which raise your condition, and one referring to moves based on your condition; neither of those are used as far as I know.

Combine that with the negative attributes proving that Contests got a ton of shit cut out, and I'm a mite suspicious. So, I'd like to comb over this block very carefully.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
