| ...except the Yen symbol in question is only shown in the US character set, above (note that the lowercase alphabet characters have overwritten the kana), and doesn't seem to be present in the Japanese ROM's character set. (At least, going by the images Imajin provided.) I've been familiar with the old Yen symbol/slash 'issue' since my DOS days, but I don't think this is it. ![]() |

| Yeah, it does. It wouldn't surprise me if someone at Sega Japan just copied a Japanese font (the 'relevant' parts, anyway) from a devkit or something over the character set in preparation for SOA's localization team. (Edit: Or, given the timeframe, they could've just been using (modified?) Japanese devkits, anyway, and copied in the font as a quick-and-dirty solution. Maybe we should check the charset tiles for other games around the same period, to see if they did the same thing.) |
