Where I live it has apparently snowed once in the last hundred years. Usually though there's one or two mountains that get snow, beyond that nothing.

1-3cm expected on Saturday. Could be our first official snowfall... or it could melt away if it happens early in the day. :\ Might hold out until December which is very good.

We're predicted snow by the end of the week. Last time it came it caused chaos, as we had the most snow in one winter for about twenty years. Everyone ran out of grit, and it generally pissed everyone off.

Sheffield had one day where it turned into a blizzard at about 6 in the morning and it continued for most of the day. I don't think I'll ever forget that, there's snow and then there's a lot of snow. It was very dark until about noon, and you could feel the strength of the weather. It was very different to the snow we're used to having in the UK. The busses stopped mid-morning and lots of people were stranded at work.

One thing I hate about snow is when it thaws and re-freezes. This was very common last year, and we had several days when the footpaths were like ice rinks, literally. It would take three times as long to get everywhere because it was so slippery. I've since wanted to know how colder cities dealt with this, because I can't imagine people tolerating that in Scandinavia or Canada.

They said it would be warmer by today, in the 40s at least. Guess what, it's snowing again.

Kas: Cities in very snowy climates, like where I used to live, usually will plow and clear the roads late at night for the morning commutes, and they put salt on the roads to melt the snow. Parking lots are cleared and there are gigantic mounds of snow around them. Sometimes, the sidewalks are cleared, often by hand with shovels, but sometimes they just don't care because most people in Detroit drive anyway.

It was supposed to snow where I live today, but fortunately it didn't. It was cold as hell though. Mainly because of the freezing wind.

Chances are it will snow here tomorrow though, and it is the day I don't have to get grocery carts in at work.
