I haven't had a phone line since 1998. I've always used cell phones.

However, my hubby is trying to get another job, one that he can do at home, but it's required to have a home line.

He has an interview next week and he has to have a phone line for it so we're going to borrow a phone to use and if it goes well, looks like we're going to have to keep the line and buy a cheap home phone.

Since this is work related, I hope we can get the phone bill written off or something.

We always used landlines at my house. it's only since I went to college that I've started relying on my cell phone for everything.

I used only landlines until some time in early 2007 when I got a prepaid cell phone. Then, I soon moved to a new apartment and didn't bother spending the $52 or so a month for AT&T landline service, I just used the cell phone

This. I used to use my land line...when I was younger, before I had my cellphone? So really...up until I was 13 or 14. And really, I never made all that many calls then anyway. We have a land line at home but even my parents are questioning its usefulness a little bit. Still, I believe they keep it since it just gets packaged in to their cable plan. That would be the case here at my place, but uh...we refuse to pay for something we literally are never going to use, so...yeah.

My dad even wants to get rid of his land line eventually but he still needs it for his mother.

The only person in my house who has a cell phone is my dad, and that's only because his work provided it for him because he is required to have one. I've never minded not having a cellphone, when I'm out of the house I don't want everyone I know calling me and bugging me about things, I just want to enjoy what I'm doing at the moment and I'll worry about anyone who's trying to get a hold of me once I get home. The only time that I think that one would be handy is for when my friends and I go to expos or large events, sometimes it's extremely hard to find them again after seperating for whatever reason .

Anyways, good luck getting your phone line set up Anya and I hope that everything goes well for your husband .

We still have a phone line at my house too, even though I'm the only one with a cell. Even since the blackout in 2003 we decided to have a home phone, that way people could 'a still called us at the time...

We're nearly the opposite here. My family has phones in the house, but never a cell phone until last January, when my dad felt the need to have one was too great in case his car broke down during the winter and the nearest patch of civilization was 5 miles away.

I am also in the legion of people who only use their cellular phone devices...

If you have to have a home line, would one of those VOIP things like MagicJack work? I've heard they're cheaper, at least...

I never had a land line while I was residence the past three years but used my cell phone a lot, and while I am here in Sydney taking Applied Communication Arts, I usually end up switching between my cell phone and my grandmother's land line, mostly if someone calls and wants to talk to me, or my grandmother and grandfather aren't home and someone calls.

I have a landline simply because it comes with Internet access. It also happens to be a flatrate meaning I can call any national number and if it's not a premium-rate service it won't cost me anything.

Presently I have no need for a phone line at all. I rarely use the phone as it is, I already have a cell phone, and wifi security is a joke.

Someone called the phone line this morning, waking me up. No one has that number.

So it was either some political BS or a telemarketer.

Sounds like you can probably write it off on your taxes.

Also, if you haven't already, get that number on the Do Not Call list.

We use the phone lines for everything here, cause well SaskTel uses them for TV, internet, phone, etc.

I'm the EXACT opposite. If you need to get a hold of me, you'd better have my home phone because I might be the one person at work that DOESN'T have a cell.

I only have a cell phone and no landline, but sometimes I forget to bring my phone or charge its battery.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I have a cell phone, and we used to have a data-only land line for DSL, but we switched to cable internet, so we don't have any phone line, unless I guess we needed to call 911 and didn't have a cell phone.
