So am I the only one who associates colors with songs? By that, I mean that I see images with every song I hear, so it's kind of like I have my own music video in my head, but it's like either that music video has a predominant color hue, or many thing in that video are a specific color.

For instance, this song is a dark forest green. I don't see gray at all if I'm just listening to this song without the video despite it's official video being purely gray. This song makes me think of dark forests and cliffs by the ocean, so I associate it with dark green, dark blue, and black.

On the other hand, this song is orange for me. There is no reason I can think of as to why it's orange, but everything I see in my mind with this song has an orange hue to it, almost desert like in a way.

And then there's this song which is black, pink, and blue. Again, no reason why. That's just what I see.

I have color associations for practically every song I hear. Some more strongly than others, but still for practically every song. Does anyone else "hear" colors like this?

I've never really thought about music/colors in that way.

Instead I see/image RPG-type battle scenes.

I use music as fuel to create new things. However I do not see colors. Such would be nice for me to be able to do, but unfortunately my musical crossover is from music to writing.

Same here, but I am very picky on what I am listening to when I write. I have to find the right song to fit the scene.

Case in point, right now my writing project takes place in 1994 so I listen to songs from that year.

Same here, actually. I rove the internet, seeking more J-rock and progressive/power metal songs to fuel my equally rock/power metal-esque writings.

There's a term for that, but I don't remember it offhand. Some people see sounds, touch flavours, taste words, etc.

Looking for synesthesia and this isn't quite that. That is a physiological thing. This is a conscious association.

I can say I do this with some things. I associate a lot of things with colors.

What tastes like blue?

Yeah, I can't say I've never associated many things with colors, but when I was a kid, I used to associate things with "odd" or "even" depending on how I felt they fit. I dunno why I did it, I just did.

I thought it might be synesthesia. On one forum I saw a person like that, and people even recorded their voices and asked them for their colors. It seemed really interesting, something I'd love to have but don't

Yeah as stated earlier this isn't like synesthesia. This is a cross between association and the fact that my mind sees very detailed imagery when listening to music. It's hard to describe without sounding like synesthesia, but it's really nothing like that. It's more like my mind associates certain songs with certain distinct imagery, and that imagery tends to have a color theme. Here's some better examples.

This is a song that I always associate with it's official music video. Everytime I hear it, I see this official video playing. Therefore I associate this song with green.

This song is about a man who's the last of the human race stranded on Mars after the earth is destroyed, therefore I see a lot of Mars and space imagery along with the entire story unfolding when I hear this song. So this song is mainly red and black, and whatever else color Mars is.

Then in the case of that "Tides of Time" song I already posted, it isn't just that the song is orange. I see a whole music video in my mind that mainly consists of the band playing their guts out against beautiful scenery that's also kind of stark, like plateaus in a desert at dawn, or the grand canyon or something, and on top of that the color is emphasized like everything was filmed through a warming filter, and everything has a very dreamy yet powerful feel to it. This makes the imagery look very orange, but there's a lot more to it than that.

I swear if I can just find a way to get all of this imagery in head out onto some medium, I'd make a fortune.

Yea, in another episode of Futurama, doesn't Fry say something about everything tasting purple? =P

I don't hear colours. However, I do envision some words.

It seems that with certain words... wow. This is hard to explain. For me, words sometimes look like their attribute. One example is "risk". Just looking at the word gives me the idea that the word has a dangerous attribute. It's very odd.

Wait, I lie. Listening to the Metroid Prime Trilogy OST gives me a predominant colour scheme in my head. Most likely because I've played through the trilogy 3 times. For example, Phazon related songs (Mainly final/Dark Samus boss battles) will make me think of Phazon Blue. Submerged Temple makes me think of a murky brown, likely because of the water.

I tend to find most genres of Metal music as "grey", because it sounds like there isn't any emotion behind it. A lot of other music though I find to be colourful because of the emotion and instrument choices. Here's something I'd class as colourful music. While on the other hand, anything by Nine Inch Nails just lacks colour for me.

I don't see myself classifying certain music as a specific colour all that often though.

Incidentally, Santana's Smooth has always been a "green" song for me, and I'm pretty sure it's due to that video despite the video's color scheme being predominantly red. When I hear this song, the green things from that video stick out in my head for some reason.

I've listened to music and had colors come to mind before... but I think it's more of me getting an emotional response, but not really being able to describe the emotion except as being "green" or whatever... if that makes any sense
