Ok, my family and I just got back from a 3 day trip to Branson, MO. We spent 1 day driving out there for 12 hours, 1 day enjoying our vacation, and 1 day driving back for twelve hours. During this time we ate a TON of food that was either very heavy or very high in fiber, including giant hamburgers, steaks, cheesecake, wild boar, wheat bread, wheat toast, cereal, carrots, and rye bread. One of my sisters even ate an entire bag of homemade granola on the way out there and coming back. There were 6 of us on this trip, and we all ate a variety of food.

So why the hell did NONE of us have a bowel movement the ENTIRE time?! We peed plenty but none of us ever had a bowel movement or ever even felt constipated! To make things weirder, once we all got home we ordered a pizza, and 5 minutes after we finished eating it, suddenly we ALL had to have a BM! We had pizza in Branson too and nothing like that happened. Perhaps this is a natural phenomenon that I've never heard of, but I just find this incredibly weird and hilarious!

Yeah, that's pretty weird... and funny too.

You also have to remember that it takes about 24 hours for food to go through your digestive system completely.

I don't think that granola would make you need to go to the john... right?

Doesn't granola count as fiber?

Yeah granola is pure fiber, and fiber makes you go. Especially this kind. It had raw sunflower seeds, rolled oats, mixed nuts, dried fruit, and soluble fiber powder among other things. As for the 24 hours to digest thing, we didn't even have a bowel movement the morning we left meaning that all of the food eaten from Wednesday onward didn't come out until late Saturday night. So that's more like 72+ hours! Only thing I can think of is maybe its due to us spending 24 hours in the car? Idk, I just think the human body is weird.

That's the problem with the human body... you won't feel the BM right away but when it comes you'll be in deep trouble. :\ Especially with that smorgasbord of a diet.

What I want to know is why I have to urinate more when I'm stressed. The first time I went to college and had kind of an orientation/activity day, I was like a pee factory, having to interrupt everyone to use the bathroom like every hour.

Its a travelling thing. You don't realize that you have to go because you're too busy talking, driving, etc. I've traveled thousands of miles many times and I would usually only go when we've stopped for the day or lunch.

It's not THAT strange.
Sometimes I don't BM for two weeks. Only works when I'm on vacation though.

Wait... that's not normal...

Well, at least you avoided a shitty situation.

Did you all fight when you had to go at the same time?

Nah. We were split up 3 and 3 at different houses at the time. My sister had to go first, and when I had to go my dad was already in the bathroom but he didn't take long. That was when I asked everyone if they had gone all trip and they said no. That made me want to call up the others to ask them the same thing, and that's when I found out it had happened to all 6 of us. Also, some of us ate healthier than the others and it still ended up this way. My dad and I ate the heaviest, but two of my sisters practically ate nothing but salads and fish. Still ended up doing the same thing.

And we took several restroom breaks both on vacation and on the road, so it's not like our body "forgot" because we were sitting too long. Whenever we stood up, we had to use the restroom, just no BM. I don't know, our family must be weird.

Also Terra, I do the same thing when I get nervous. I think is has something to do with your muscles being more tense than normal. That or somehow your body associates that with "relief" and is trying to make you go to help calm the stress. When I get stressed, I have to pee constantly, and I can't eat anything to save my life. There have been particularly stressful times in my life when I have gone 3 days without eating.

This story reminds me of how when women live together, their menstrual cycles align. Except this time it's your family and poop.

Why is it that when you're frightened, your muscles tighten, but your bowels loosen?

Yeah. My BM is totally weird and does whatever the hell it wants, usually constipating and even clogging the toilet in a semi-regular basis (used to be regular, though, so... success?). I honestly think I need more fiber in my diet, and maybe more variety, since I heard somewhere just recently that having a monotonous diet tends to do that.

This has been another exciting program of TMI
