Ended up learning all I know about computers by myself.

Granted, I'm not an expert, but I was more proficient at DOS/Windows than the other kids in my class. Never relied on any books or anything.

Programming / Computer skills are mostly self-taught (I mean, I knew quite a bit before even considering Computer Engineering.

Guitar is 50/50. Played a few years before getting a teacher.

Bass is all self-taught (then again, lol guitar).
Same for Piano / Keyboards

Some audio engineering stuff too.

Lots of trial/error in there.

Technically the guitar, I never had any formal instruction on the instrument itself but I've had prior music instruction so my knowledge of music theory definitely helped.

I've taught myself almost everything that I know about computers. The rest of my family has a lot of trouble with figuring out how to do things on the computer (have no desire to explore different programs and figure out what different options do, also don't know how to do a google search if they want to figure out how to do something), I'm really happy that I'm not like that .

Same here, and for work shoes I just buy ones without laces anyway!

I learned HTML first by watch my brother and then just experimenting on my own. This was way back in the Geocities days of 1997. A few years later I started learning PHP, MySQL and CSS the same way. And most of my Adobe Photoshop skills were from experimentation and boredom. I read a lot of tutorials but never had any classes on it.

I also learned to play the drums on my own. Our new church needed a drummer so I bought a set and just started playing. I've always been "rhythmic" if that can be used to describe someone. My parents called my brother and I the "Mad Tappers" because we were always tapping to make beats. I wasn't that great to start but I could keep a simple beat. After about 6 months I started getting a lot better. I would sit and listen to a song and then try to match the drums from it. I did this for a while and it really improved my timing and transitions. Now after 3 years I could be a passable drummer in an actual band but I sold my set after our church stopped having music (long story).

And if it counts, I learned how to drift RC cars on my own. Its not easy you know. Weight transfer, counter-steer, apex, etc. Its really fun and I'm getting better at holding the drift lines.

I actually forgot I learned some HTML on my 486, somehow, before I really even knew too much of what it was used for (I had no internet access at the time).

Very, very basic stuff that would have worked in the early decade or even late 1990s... which fits, I guess, seeing as I got it in 2002.

I taught myself classic HTML, first a bit in 1996 (I was lazy and just put almost in <pre> and </pre> tags though) and then a lot more in 2002.

I'm not made to be a programmer with how rapidly technology changes.

I taught myself everything I know about computers at this point.
I went through my dad's old Calculus book and taught myself how to do all sorts of things depicted in that monstrosity.
I started reading when I was 11 months old without any help from my parents.
I taught myself how to use Photoshop and Illustrator.
Ummmm...that is all I can think of so far.

Scarily, not too much. I guess all about Internet security, how to make a basic SMW hack, and such. I tend to really lack effort in the interest of the day in things I want to self-teach. I actually have a multiplication table of hexidecimal values tacked on my wall, but it's being blocked by my art and video game storage system. I know up to 4x3, though.

Well, I guess I did learn about some aspects of Photoshop by myself, but the tools I use to make comics are severely ass-backwards and such (Though I am learning that Select + Paint bucket + Stroke makes for quick coloring if done right).

Now that I remember it, I also taught myself HTML back in the day as well. It was impressive then, and I actually did a demonstrative speech about it back in tenth grade.

But that was nearly a decade ago.

I picked up PHP, HTML and CSS about nine years ago around the time when I started hanging out at Acmlm's Board and the Final Fantasy VII Citadel. I liked it enough that I studied Software Engineering at university. I've learned a lot about programming and software development at uni, so I can't really say everything I've learned in web development terms I learned on my own. However, I've never had any formal training in PHP, HTML or CSS - everything is self-taught or adapted from what I've learned in other languages while at university.

Drawing is something I do infrequently now, but I used to do more often. I've practiced over many years and I've since graduated to digital image manipulation packages like Photoshop, and I'm now using a Wacom tablet. It's still something I like to keep on a very small scale though, so I'm most happy using just an A5 tablet and the $50 Pixelmator app for the Mac.

At the moment, I'm teaching myself sewing and dressmaking. I inherited a sewing machine from Chad's mum, who didn't need it any more. I've bought myself some fabric and some patterns for some cushions and I'm giving it a go. It's something I want to replace drawing more and more, to become one of my primary hobbies when I'm older and I've got more experience. I really want to be good enough to make my own clothes and costumes.

I essentally acquired two things by myself:

* Computing
* English

Teaching yourself English, especially if it is not your first language, gives you a feel of the language much better than any teacher can tell you.
