SMP is awesome. I can't wait for the bugs to be ironed out... I've been playing all the weekend with two friends and my sister.

However, usually, after 4 hours of playing or so, the server gets *very* laggy. There's no way to recover from it other than deleting the whole world and starting a new one...

Does anyone else experience this?

And, btw, i DO think Notch is rich...

So, I've finished my new stronghold, the Water Palace.

The corral, right outside on the eastern face:


Coming into the palace from the west:


The overall structure of the palace is that of a four-level suspended walkway over a central pool.


The waterfalls make the top of the palace look quite impressive.


Looking down, the view is great.


In addition to looking cool, the waterfalls are an express route to the bottom, in-ground level, where I have constructed several useful chambers in the walls.


Most of the lighting here is of course natural.


In the eastern wall, under the staircase, is my pantry. Left chest contains pork and grilled pork, right chest contains wheat and bread.


In the western wall is the garden, where I grow reeds and wheat.


In the southern wall is my little apartment, which is where I reside when not out.

Here's the main room:

The bathroom, with a toilet, sink, and shower:


The kitchen. Has a crafting table and 10 furnaces for smelting things in large quantities.


And, lastly, the dining room. It has... a table.


Thoughts?

The exterior ones in particular are impossible to make out, but some of the interior ones are pretty dark, too.
In my opinion, you should use a lot more torches, and perhaps even use some on the exterior.

Of course, I've pretty much littered everywhere I've been with torches, so maybe I'm just not used to seeing what I'll call a "living area" that's so dark.

Exterior shots are updated.

The interior is fine; I tend to use just enough torches to prevent mob spawning.

It doesn't help that torches in this game have all the brightness of a god damn match. Seriously, there are street lamps here that put out more light in a 50 foot radius than 20 torches do in this game.

I'm reminded of Dwarf Fortress in all but one respect:

I actually kinda have a half a clue of what I'm doing.

Damn it and I was going to go to bed earlier tonight. Oh well.

Edit: Almost four hours later I've got a decent little hole in the wall carved out. Pictures will come when I'm satisfied with the upper floors.

Edit2: Calling it a night. Entry floor nearly complete, mineshaft as complete as a mineshaft ever gets, storage room almost complete. Side-entry complete.

Main entrance - why build a hall under the mountain when you can turn the entire mountain into your castle? It helped that the mountain had a huge cave in it to begin with, and since I have Peaceful difficulty on, I didn't have to worry about clearing it out first.

Side/Top Floor stairway - The staircase is an interesting one. See, originally I was going to use a zig-zag pattern of half-blocks; the top two layers only. The blocks refused to cooperate, and while I figured out why, I liked this effect more. You can also see that I'm rather liberal with my lighting.
