Is this a dream? Discuss.

This may have been influenced by my awesome Ethics class...

No, we do live on a planet that will one day be eaten by the sun however. Hope that the future generations manage to figure out that space thing.

My totem feels right, so I'm not in someone else's dream. But it could be my own dream.

What if you're a man dreaming about the life of somebody else?

I've thought of that.

I've also sometimes wondered what you experience after you die, if anything. Maybe it's just your life again on repeat

Oh God I hope not. (I personally believe in Heaven and Hell, but I think that the vast majority of people go to Heaven and only the truly wicked--like, serial killers and rapists and the like--are condemned to Hell. I also believe in capitalizing Heaven and Hell, because they're technically proper nouns.)

Also, I used to wonder if I was really a person when I was 8 or so. I'm mostly over wondering that, though.

I like the ideas of reincarnation (as long as there's not a high probability of being something like a fruit fly or a bacterium) and eternal dreams, myself.

The sad part is that you'd probably have no idea that your life was on repeat, so the same mistakes and actions are taken over and over again in an infinite loop. Even suicide for various reasons, including "discovering" this idea as fact.

Ooh boy.

Which leads into preditermination, or fate. What if everything we've done and are going to do is already written?

There are also moral implications. Murderers can be let off because it was meant to happen.

Perhaps this is why we have déjà vu, because we've already been there before on one of several play-throughs.

Don Hertzfelt, of all people, mentioned two theories right next to each other in one of his films. One being we're experiencing eternity all at once right now, but happen to go through it linearly, and that genetics have greater control over what one does in life rather than free will, illustrated by a person narrating a story of twin brothers separated at birth, but both ended up being serial killers.

God, everything is messed up.

Wouldn't predetermination also mean that all those murderers were meant to receive punishment?

Anyway, I believe we should live our lives based on what we can observe, not what we can't. As far as we can tell, this is the only shot at life we get, so it should be lived to its fullest, regardless of how real and final it actually is.

It's interesting to think about such things, but it shouldn't really affect how you go about your life.

But what if the jury was predetermined to try and cheat predetermination?

My point is that with predetermination, everything that happens is meant to happen.

You can't "cheat" predetermination.

Then there's the possibility that all of this is actually an incredibly elaborate hallucination, and I am locked in a cell somewhere. Everything that is not currently visible to me doesn't exist within the hallucination, but everything I do see impacts my perceptions, giving the illusion that I am experiencing something real. Maybe all of you are merely constructs that believe themselves to be sentient, to further the realism.

Is seeing believing? Or just the opposite?
