It's Labor or Labour Day Weekend in North America Any plans?

This year it's just another weekend, other than some things being closed on Monday that are usually open, for me. School in Michigan used to start in August (I think they recently changed it), so it was my first days off (Friday and Monday in middle and high school).

Nothing really planned, but as with every holiday I'm sure my wife's family will have dinner. Hawaiians don't need an excuse to have a big meal but holidays are a given for them. Any holiday. Other than that, just a nice 3 day weekend.

Everything's closed on Labor Day here. Ridiculous.

I mean, I don't mind staying home and relaxing, but... even the local grocery store's closed. And they're usually open on most holidays.

When I was in Germany, I wasn't used to pretty much everything being closed on Sundays and holidays. Especially around Easter, when things would be closed Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I often didn't have enough food and had to go to fuel stations and train stations to get food.

Coprorations and schools are closed here but for retail stores it's a big shopping day so they're open. I used to work for a furniture store and they were always busy on these types of holidays. Now I work for an insurance company and get them all off.

Despite being Canadian, I usually use the American spelling for these things and don't add the extra U.

Teachers at school never complained about it either.

I'm the reverse I started using British spellings as a protest against George W. Bush when I was in college. I never switched back to US spellings. People don't usually complain or care.
