| I'd be willing to bet that the former would be the best way to find if there's any unused stuff present. However, the FDS ROM I have of it doesn't specify which version it is, so SOL there. ____________________ |

Yeah, but it still is always good to check both version out just in case. I see plenty of places offering both versions for download. Sorry for dragging this on a little, it could be overlooked because of 1.1 is a higher version and they may have different unused content or whatever the case may be.

| If I can find the 1.0 ROM, I'll take a leap into the graphics to see if I can find anything odd or different. I'll leave the version differences to someone else who's more experienced with the game than I. ____________________ |

At the very least, a hex compare would be useful. That way, we would be able to see what has changed.

| I realize this is a topic for Zelda 1, 2, and 3, but I felt this was still the best place to post this. There's some more unused dialogue in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, according to this site. (Scroll down to "text dump oddities".) Once again, I could be wrong, but I certainly don't recognize any of the things the author claims are unused. |

I think the Navi one is used somewhere, if only because it is not listed as unused on the Notes: page.
The others are more interesting. Maybe there's more where that came from. ____________________ |

Found this on Google while copy-pasting one of the unused messages into the search box. Some of them are mentioned neither on your link nor on the wiki page.

As for the 'river devil,' it's been ages since I've played Zelda 2, but could that simply be another vague reference to the 'next' castle monster you'd have to fight? (Gah - now I'm going to have to play it. First xkeeper inadvertently makes me want to run through Link's Awakening, again, and now this. )Did they actually bother lengthening the amount of text in the dialog windows, or just try to fit their translation in the original text's space? |

| They pretty much tried to translate within the text space they were given. I notice them screw grammar and such to get in all the necessary info. Also, reason I mention River Devil is because they also make a reference to something similar about the Devil hating noise. ...Hey wait just a second. Isn't Nintendo the one who avoided religious symbolism? Crosses everywhere, "Devil" in this game, etc. Buh? o.o ____________________ |

It was probably not that long before they realized, "Hey, we can change the graphics!" ![]() (Then again, they did have crosses in Sanctuary in LTTP, didn't they? Sure, it's a church, but who's counting?) I wonder if they received flack for that; Nintendo didn't originally seem that heavy-handed on matters of religion and death in games (IMO). |

| Hard to say, really. There are examples on the wiki showing SNES games that were censored (not counting the MK blood debacles), like Lufia 2 and at least one of the Breath of Fire games (there's more than that, I know). Rick commented on the changes to Final Fight in another topic. I know Castlevania 3 was edited, somewhat (to tone down religious symbolism, etc.) and the Famicom game "Devil World" (or was that "Demon World"? I've played it, and I can't even remember the title.) was supposedly not considered because of the crosses, etc., in the game. The removal of all the Hitler references in the game that would become Bionic Commando probably counts, too, I guess. So, if anything, they probably started somewhere in the NES era and let it build in intensity from there. |

| TheAlmightyGuru has an article about uncensored religion in NES games. NOA's censorship was extremely random. They also tended to be tougher on other companies' games then their own. They allowed topless Venus de Milo statues in Kid Icarus, but topless statues in some of the Castlevania games and Maniac Mansion were covered up or removed altogether. |

| Yeah, I'd say so. But enough about the censorship thingy, that's a whole 'nother topic whatsoever. Any more headway on Zelda II stuff, since we were talking about that before? ____________________ |
