I tried switching to Dvorak on an old 486 I had lying around. Couldn't get used to it, so I switched back pretty quickly, but I had modified the keyboard to move the keys into the Dvorak layout so I still had a Dvorak keyboard (with uneven bumpy keys) even after I switched back to QWERTY. It was pretty goofy.

I completely forgot this layout existed.
Does anyone even use it seriously?  I wouldn't be able to adjust very well with it.

| I've heard that Dvorak is really good, but I've never actually tried it. I don't wanna edit my custom keyboard layout even further... it'll make it so much harder if I ever lose it. |

Weird. As for me, I just like QWERTY. Way, way too used to it, and I have to use one at work anyways. Hell, I get annoyed when the backspace isn't double-width. ____________________ |

I've never seriously considered switching to dvorak. The supposed speed/ergonomic benefits have never seemed like they're worth the effort.
On the other hand, it would be amusing to see people's reactions when they borrow my computer...

I switched to Dvorak a couple years back. The difference I noticed right away was ergonomicsāmy hands stopped hurting. That was a welcome change.
Speedāwise, thereās not much difference. I typed about 100wpm with Qwerty, now I type about 100wpm with Dvorak (and a fair amount less with Qwerty). Lost the ability to type Qwerty after a couple months, but quickly gained it back due to necessity.
For the first couple weeks I felt naked, like I wasnāt capable of using a computer anymore. Very disconcerting, but it didnāt last long. Iām happy I switched, but wouldnāt recommend it to other people unless they are really interested.
If youāre looking for ways to improve your keyboard layout, I would instead recommend swapping Ctrl with Caps Lock. That oneās a little easier to explain to friends.
