One thing that trips people up is that Latin has no [v] sound. The letter V, when used as a consonant, makes the sound [w]. Also, C is always [k] and G always [g].

VENI VIDI VICI -> "wenny weedy wiki", not "venny veedy veechy".

Actually, there are two variants of Latin--Classical Latin and Church Latin. V is pronounced like a W in the former, but like a V in the later. C makes a K sound in Classical but a Ch sound in Church. There are also some other minor differences.

*former latin student*

Both forms are technically correct--Classical Latin was essentially replaced by Church Latin, IIRC, due to the fact that languages fluctuate so much.

Invisible consonants. Like silent vowels, but they're invisible.

Sanky, in its original Czech pronunciation would be sun-ki, though I don't care about it being pronounced sehn-ki or sehn-key in English. Any other pronunciations of yours?

I never bothered to figure out how to pronounce your name, krutomisi, so I just think "krutosimine" which sounds kinda like a protein compound of some sort.

Yeah, I guess I prefer Ancient Rome over the Roman Catholic Church

For more pronunciation fun, try Modern Greek. It doesn't sound like Greek words usually do in English (which tends to be closer to Ancient Greek).

Actually, so-called "Church" Latin was used prior to the formation of the Catholic church, though it is the official language of the Vatican.

Just sayin'.

My brain just corrupts your name into "Krustomi", for some reason.

That's just about as bad as I pronounce it. For some reason, I read it as "Krumstosi".

Mine was invented by BMF once on IRC, and since I was in the market for a new username at the time (BooUrns was a bit too common for my liking), I decided to go with it and see how I liked it.

[20:52:08] * BMF54123 changes Boo's name to OoBurns

Obviously, I liked it.

Anya: Hey, what do you know...I've been pronouncing your name right, too. You say it "Dmitri", right? Also, are you by any chance a giant Piranha Plant?

Terra: So true, so true. Modern Greek is weird.

My name...well, you know how when you choose Mario as your player in Mario Kart 64, he says "Mamma mia!"? When I played that game at a cousin's house quite some time ago (as in at least 5 or 6 years, maybe even close to a decade), I thought it sounded like he was saying "I'm Amelia!". When I registered at GameSpot in July 2008, I thought "imamelia" (no punctuation or capitalization) would make a good username for video-game-related stuff, so I used it. Then I used the same username when I registered on SMW Central in September, and then again for the next few forums. My YouTube username, "TheMartianGeek", comes from a running joke in my (immediate) family about me being a Martian.

Lessee...

I've had so many different usernames over the years there should be rules against it or studies that prove its bad for the health.

My first username was doomsdayman22, which was just my email prefix. I used this for a while, and it morphed into doomsdaytrainer for the PokeCommunity boards when I signed up there way back when.

My first deviantart account was eclipse-arc, this was around the time I'd started making fan projects; Eclipse being the name of my Sonic character and Arc being the name of my Zelda character. Both were respectively used on forums for a while. The former fell out of use completely after I realised how many other people used it for same and how silly it sounded.

Arc however underwent an evolution of sorts. I liked the sound of Arc on its own, but it wasn't quite all there. So I messed around with alternate additions. Arcorn, Arcurus, Arcammon. Eventually settled on Arcaith. That's pretty much stuck for my Zelda exploits.

Not too soon after, I ended up joining The RWP as an active forumer, and used the name Tee-Hee, my favourite enemy from the Banjo series. Not a whole lot to that one, really.

Somewhere around this time, I left hotmail for gmail, my new secret love, and created the username biobomber. I really liked it, and didn't really have much of a problem with it until I started getting funny looks around the time terrorism became the new buzzword. It hadn't occurred to me to create a different email for potential job applications etc at the time (a 'professional' email), so I switched again.

Sticking on gmail, henna.gaikokujin was born. Japanese. Brilliant move, since I have to spell it out near most every time over the phone. Created my 'professional' email address not soon after. Basically just my first three initials and my surname, punctuated with full stops.

hennahacker evolved from that root of my username, and isn't much of a stretch of the imagination.

Others along the way that I've long lost the place of chronologically are:

Umbra - codename for one of my original characters
BaDOS - Brain and Disk Operating System (my Steam display name)
*MooN* - my current MSN name, starting to stick, might do a complete username overhaul for this one
cactus.cloud - the other contender in the battle with *MooN*
Beagle - can't remember anything about this one, just know it existed once

Yeah, that's part of why I switched to my real name for my E-mail address. I didn't feel like spelling out and explaining my old E-mail address to people over the phone, and I wanted something more professional for résumés and such.

Especially since non-FF6 fans might think that "terrabranford" was a Ford dealership
