Also, if Anya is taken, I'll go with Anya09.

09 being my favorite number.

So I guess this thread happened again, huh.

Originally I was Koneko, Japanese for kitten, because the language and the thing named are both cool. I also like that people tend to think that names in foreign languages are sophisticated, so there's this contrast between their expectations and the true playful meaning that I like watching people respond to.

Occasionally I append Tyriin to Koneko. Tyriin is from a language my sister and I invented for part of a fantasy world we were concocting. It refers to the name of a place, so there's no direct translation.

For a few months I was FireHaven, because I was sick of people mispronouncing Koneko on Skype and so forth. Fire Haven is a spell in the old PC RPG Anvil of Dawn, that is supposed to just give you fire resistance but is a key part of a bug that breaks the game completely. The idea of monstrous power waiting just behind a facade of weakness appeals to me, as does the obscurity of the reference. I gave up on this name because it never quite felt right; I never felt a feeling of identity with the name.

Miasmir was my name for some forum roleplay that I never merged with the stuff I did on Acmlm's. The name comes from miasma, poison, and the fact that anything ending with -mir sounds like a male Russian name. Both parts were picked because I like the sound they make.

Recently I almost got my name changed back to Koneko when I realized that plenty of people here had no idea who I was, but my zeal for a name change lasted only long enough to send one pm, and Anya does not have name change powers. Instead I just started using my LQ avatar from the old board, figuring that would be enough to identify me to anyone who cares.

I'm not particularly new, as I registered in...April, I think? But I've yet to give an origin for my name, so I thought I'd toss it out there.

In late 2008, I started to get a bit into a game/sport called Geocaching. In it, you use a GPS receiver to locate hidden containers, or 'caches', that other players have hidden. The cache owners post information and coordinates for each of their caches on a website so that others may find them. It's essentially a modern-day treasure hunt.

On the websites that service Geocaching, players go by screen names just as most online communities do. I needed to think of what name I was going to be known as and remembered by, and for some reason, the box art for the North American release of Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest kept popping into my mind.

Also inexplicable to me; I thought that the pose taken by the character on the box was the most 'Epic' one you could possibly take.

And because I didn't like the default name of Benjamin that the character was given, I added something a bit more generic by tacking on 'Guy' to the end.

I like capitalizing things, so the 'G' remained as such.

I've since used that name on over a dozen websites. It's one of a handful of screen names I use: Rivistin, or the variants, Rivestin, Rivest, Rivisten, and Rivist. Klenine, Rindrint, Tower, Link (It's less common than you'd think), and Werd Smyth.

Most of those, however, are just from me thinking of names that no one in their right mind would use, because I was tired of re-entering information into online registration forms over and over again.

Gender: Masculine

Usage: Ancient Scandinavian
Means "wanderer" in Old Norse.

The other name I commonly use is Thexare, which has no meaning. During a Kingdom Hearts namechange spree on a previous board, I realized the whole "rearrange and add X" wouldn't work with my normal name. Conveniently, I had an alt named Aether. And so, Thexare was born.

Best. You're comparing to the Chaos Blade, correct? In that case, you have 40 power, which is very good... but Orlandu has a bizarre tendency to one-shot average enemies even with Excalibur (21 or 22 power, forgot which) if you equip him with an emphasis on PA. And its perma-Haste makes up for that discrepancy against stronger enemies.

(of course, you could juse dual wield them, but still.)

Let's hop on a time machine. Back on Acmlm's Board, I was called Populous at first. I've never played the game, but I just bumped into it and started using it.

After that, I went with the name of INSERT COIN, due to my avid addiction with coin-operated games. I'd still want a pinball in my house

I had a few different usernames here and there, including Kaze Kawl, Sir Panda of Ren etc. but I've settled for Pandaren (PandarenBa for places that already have a username Pandaren). If you didn't know, Pandarens are a race in the Warcraft universe, which frankly are also my favorite race. Too bad they haven't added them in-game in the MMO yet.

Other username which I frequently use is Vuoripeikko, which means:

Vuori = Mountain
Peikko = Troll

In finnish. This username is older than dirt, goes way back to the time when I first started playing World of Warcraft and made a troll shaman with this name

Paulguy's Post configuration
My name isPaul and I'm mostly a guy.

I also go as "aeduo" sometimes. 8t was generated by a program I wrote when I was experimenting with a basic name generation algorithm.

I'll occasionally come up with some nonsense name when I don't want people to know it's me.

Me and my cousin downloaded Pokémon Ruby back when it was all brand new and just in Japanese. We were giving all the Pokémon custom names and I gave Mudkip the name "Mlinn". My cousin didn't like it though, so we decided it's a Mlinn with the nickname of "Sanky".
When I first registered somewhere on the internet (a Czech Pokémon site, mind you) I used the name Sanky because... I dunno. But yeah. I don't really know the name's *origin*, but at least I know how I came to use it

Back then, I also used the name "Sanky the Master" because hurr durr I'm the pokeman master right.
On gmail, and only gmail, I'm "gsanky" because it's like google (or gmail) and sanky :o
And then I started using "Sanky Ultimate" because I needed something to use as a "last name" or to add when Sanky is taken. No idea how I came up with this, but it's common to name myself SankyU or SankyUlt if Sanky is taken.

I have a few pseudonyms, but I won't list them here.

Auxiliatrix is taken partly from Homestuck (there's a character whose username is grimAuxiliatrix) and partly from my love of Latin. It roughly translates to "a helpful woman", and I often find myself wanting to help everyone, so it's somewhat fitting as well.

I mostly use Acey Enn on other sites--a phonetic pronunciation of my initials (ACN). I used to use Anna Cassidy in a lot of places as well.

I also use gleefulcynic on occasion, such as on deviantART.

The one real exception to this is LiveJournal, where I'm known as illimerent. (Up until recently, I was bitchyfaic, which is also an obvious exception.)

Okay... I normally use Nelrith wherever I go and 99% of the time it's not taken, but once in a while somebody else has it too, which is weird for me because I made it up!

In the event where it IS used, I use Nelrïth to be a dick, but if I can't have any special characters like that, I'll use Tadirus.

Nelrith - Made it up when I was young, probably a name I gave an imaginary friend or something, it kinda stuck since then. I use it for D&D characters, online handles, whatever.
Tadirus - A Simbattle character I ended up making. Kinda where I fall when I can't use Nelrith or if it seems overused. My backup D&D name.
Demon King of Crabmeat - Oh this one... It all started with a photo of me "crushing" a can of Phil's Crab Meat at WinCo, while dressed completely in my awesome goth attire. Anya kinda came up with the name and it's stuck...
Ork Warboss of Crabbydeff - A corruption of DKoC, but with some Warhammer Ork flavor.

Not much change. It's fun to see this again.

Eon - Shortened from Eonisa, which in turn was based on game company Nippon Ichi's abbreviation.
theclaw - From the creation of mine, The Claw. Who traces back to a former hand gesture of mine.
theclaw135 - Among the few variants with meaning. Pokedex Number 135 stands for Jolteon.
lumclaw - A recent occasional form that doesn't mesh well together. Lum is that anime character I'm very fond of.

Before anyone asks, no. I don't like electricity. That apparent theme was unfortunate coincidence. I'd used theclaw135 over 8 years before lumclaw.

Summer 2000 came around and I wanted a new username. One day at a friend's house the song "Thoughtless" by Korn, one of the bands I like, came on and I just picked it. Been using it ever since.

#54
For those of you who haven't seen it before:

Sometime in 1991 or 1992, I rented Shining in the Darkness, a (then new) RPG for Genesis, and didn't feel like choosing or entering a name so I mashed buttons ... I liked the name I got, so I kept it ever since

"Milly" is just some nickname based on it that someone eventually came up with, not based on any particular character of the same name

Yay, I've been pronouncing "Anya" correctly

Mine's pretty easy (tair-uh). Some of my old names were harder, though.

I tend to pronounce my username as something like "Augh-zill-ee-ay-trix", but the actual Latin pronunciation would likely be closer to "Owg-zill-ee-ah-treex".

Oh, Latin, you and your phonics.

Yep, Latin can be weird if you don't know how it's really pronounced.

One thing that trips people up is that Latin has no [v] sound. The letter V, when used as a consonant, makes the sound [w]. Also, C is always [k] and G always [g].

VENI VIDI VICI -> "wenny weedy wiki", not "venny veedy veechy".
