Who here used to, or still does, yo-yo?

I have a Brain yo-yo in my desk drawer at home. I saw it at the store a few months ago and had to get one. I used to love yo-yo'ing when I was in 4th and 5th grade. It was a trend at our school and we even had a yo-yo professional visit! I was never that great, but I could do the typical tricks. One of the hobby shops in town had a card with tricks on it and if you performed them in their store you would get a stamp. Once you had enough stamps, you got a free yo-yo or something.

The one I trick I could never get right was the barrel roll. Even to this day, I can't get it perfect. I can do the high-wire pretty well and the UFO freaks people out. They think I'm going to hit them. I can also loop-de-loop really well.

We actually had a mini-lesson on yo-yoing (is that a word?) in elementary school, specifically in 5th grade. I sucked at it, though.

I enjoy playing with them when I can, but I've never had any instruction on how to use one, so I just ended up figuring that out myself. I wouldn't mind learning how to do some tricks with one though.

I'm terrible at it.

Father-in-law gave me a yo-yo the other day. It's in a drawer somewhere.

The most I can do is make it go down, then back up.

Up and down, up and down...

Surprisingly, yo-yo's were never really big when I went to school. Hopscotch, kickball, jump rope... but not yo-yo's.

The hot thing when I was in school was Hacky-Sacks, or however that would be spelled I never got into them, myself.

That was my 10th grade year. I was decent and could get over 100 consecutive hits. Supposedly someone at the school could do over 600 but never demonstrated for us.

I've tried to use a yo-yo on various occasions but all of my attempts always end with failure. I just can't get the feel for it, whenever the yo-yo runs out of string I can never seem to get it to come back up . Maybe my yo-yo is broken....

Get one of these to start. They come back up automatically once they start slowing down too much. This is what I currently have but I need to get one with better bearings to do more tricks. The brains are a good way to start, but limit you once you start getting more advanced.
