So, have these ever really been looked at in any sort of detail?

I know we have wiki spaces for Zelda 1 and A Link to the Past, but I'm surprised at the amount of investigation in them, especially since they're still pretty popular.

Rahan, didn't you mention in our hang out something about unused clock graphics in LttP?

They haven't really been looked at at all. This was noted on ALttP's talk page too, in fact. I'm sure there must be unused stuff in there.

IIRC wind waker has some very alpha models in it along with several items including the "wind waker stone". Jaytheham found it years ago but never released a code. The game is 7 now, it took the same amount of time to find the arwing in OOT.

In the meantime, perhaps we should take a real good look-see in one of the first three games, mayhaps? Hey, look what happened when we finally got to digging into Link's Awakening.

And also while I'm here in this thread typing, should I make mention of the unused Microphone coding in the first LoZ game in the U.S. release? After all, the game does make mention of it, but there was never any microphone peripheral for us. :X

I opened up my NES and traced the connections, and as far as I can tell there's nothing that would be compatible with the Famicom microphone. It wouldn't be too difficult to hack one in, though.

There were actually a few games that had leftover microphone support, usually because the functionality was so minor that it didn't make sense to bother removing it/mapping it to a button. Star Soldier in particular has some secret bonuses that seem to be activated with the microphone.

Kid Icarus had it's microphone support mapped to the second controller so you can haggle prices in the shops and was left in when ported to the US, and I'm assuming PAL versions. Thought there are a few variations of Kid Icarus, it may not exist in all copies of the game.

I remember hearing about a way to haggle prices in the game, but for some reason, I must've mistook it for the Game Boy version. I don't remember where I heard it.

It's still possible to haggle prices in Kid Icarus even if you're playing on a console with no microphone support. You just have to press certain buttons on Controller 2.

Well it is technically used, is it not? Just a little obscured, but used as a failsafe to keep the game from crashing.as it used in the GBA version? I think not, but still it should be looked into.

Yeah, but as far as I recall, Chris won the right to have his name in the room as a prize in a contest... so, wouldn't the original Japanese version of the room say something else? (And therefore, fall under region/localization differences?)

Do the GBA versions of the room (if it's still largely the same) match their Super Famicom/Super Nintendo counterparts?

Yes, but it's more than obscure enough (and certainly interesting enough) to warrant a mention on the wiki.

It does function as an error handler, but you can also access it by running REALLY fast from Sanctuary to a specific hole in the ground; I've done it a few times myself. However, I don't know if the game was specifically coded to do this (todo: check RAM for a timer), or if it's actually triggering some kind of glitch.

It was a Nintendo of America contest, but I'm sure the Japanese/European version had to have some kind of failsafe unless the game was code completely differently which I don't believe is the case.
