One thing that amazes me about this community is the diversity of all its members in terms of education. So I am curious to know what everyone is majoring in or if you already have a degree, what was it in?
Personally I have big plans for my education. I plan on getting at least three degrees.
-a Bachelors in Computer Networking
-a Bachelors in Computer Programming
-a Associates in Electrical Engineering (I might go for a bachelors though)

I figure that the best thing to do in this economy is to get as much education as possible to make your resume stand out above the rest. The concept of being "overqualified" for a position really doesn't exist in this economy.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. It still hasn't got me any jobs even in a tech-hub like Seattle because most companies want people with years of experience, and I have almost no CS-related work experience.

I'll be getting an A-Level in Human Biology, Chemistry and Physics and an AS-Level in ICT. If I continue with ICT for 2 years, I'll get an A-Level in that too.

I'm getting a Bachelor of Arts in German with a Teacher's Certificate. (I'd probably do ESL [English as a Second Language] in Germany, though)

I could give you my degree, but I'm going to assume it's going to make as little sense as everything in this topic is for me. :/

AKA: Not the same education system here. :/

Honestly? I'm not exactly sure what I'm shooting for anymore.

An... associates in web design, I guess, to start off with? I just hope with the recent HTML5 push that this field isn't going to be as intimidating as I expect it.

I'll be honest, I don't know exactly what fields are called. I know it's in that general IT area, but the specifics kinda confuse me a bit.

I'm still debating on what I want to get a degree in. I know in the long run I want to have any type of degree, it helps. Not as much as when we're recovering from a recession (aka now) but when the economy is stable they help. My dad never had trouble finding a job in any computer related field because he had a bachelors degree in computer science... from the 70s! Back when they were using punch cards. It helps to have NASA on your resume, he worked at one of their branch offices in D.C. for a while.

So anyway, I want to get into something technology related. I need to decide before the spring semester, though. If I don't start soon, I'll be too old to even care anymore. As it stands now, I'll be 29 if I get a 4 year degree. I'm leaning towards Information Technology / Data Analytics (my current work position) or something from graphical such as Web Design or even Video Game Design. There are a few schools that do online courses in these, which I would have to do since I have 2 kids and my wife will be in school with Euphoria.

I recommend the Data Analytics. If you get a degree in that then you can get a job anywhere. Especially if you want to work for the government. The government needs analysts badly. Every day these guys in the pentagon/other government agencies get several hard drives worth of intelligence that they have to sift through. The intelligence industry is incredibly understaffed and they need more bodies. If you moved to the D.C. area you most certainly could get a job here. Also there is the option of working for a government contractor. They need analysts as well.

I'm currently working toward an associates degree in Digital Design and Graphics as well as a Photoshop for Photography certificate. I might get more certificates depending on what's required for them. The only reason why I'm not getting a bachelor's degree in this right now is that of all of the schools near me and/or I can afford, the only one that offers this course of study is a two-year college. The good news though, is that the school starts you out in an internship once you get your degree. I'm hoping that once I get to that point, I'll be financially sound enough to further my education to a bachelor's degree level at another school, and I'll know exactly where I want to hone my studies. Right now I guess I'm preparing myself to be a graphic designer, but I'm interested in other fields too so who knows where I'll eventually end up. I also might get an associates in Interactive Multimedia once I get my design degree since a lot of the coursework is similar.

Only problem is I pretty much have to pay for this stuff out of pocket, and I have to work full-time in order to do that. I was finally eligible for some financial aid this year, but I still have to work full-time just to cover bills and living expenses, so I have to attend school part-time with only 1 or 2 classes per quarter. I feel like its going to take me forever to get a freakin 2-year degree, but at least I'm working toward something I guess.

I know how you feel. I feel like I will never be out of school at this rate. I have been hopping from school to school trying to find the place that fits me best. Luckily I found the perfect school for me. It is a technical school that is about 10 miles from my house. The teachers are absolutely brilliant and they actually give a shit about the students. It is good to have direction. Most people in college have no idea what they want to do and end up wasting lots of money.

I have a high school diploma, and a diploma in Information Technology & Web Development. I'm going for a diploma in Applied Communication Arts & Graphic Design, and hopefully will get in before September.

With the demand of the world today I'm not sure it will stand for too much longer.

I have a high school diploma, and that's it. I may or may not want to go to college because of the stupidity of plausibly having to put myself into debt and eat shitty meals for years, and not having money for even the basics even if I get a full-time job, it's not my idea of happiness. If I do plan on going to college, I'd go for computer science since computers is really all I'm fluent in, but I'm also interested in becoming Japanese major. I don't know. I'm not interested in graphics design or any of the other sought after jobs.

Nothing. I went to community college for journalism, but I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do.

Hopefully I can take some courses online for writing, creative and for video games. It's Full Sail online. I would rather go there but that's not going to happen...even though it's about four or so hours away.

Working on my BS in Computer Science. I'll graduate in the spring if everything goes well. I have been slightly disappointed in my college education so far. It takes a long time to power through all the dross and get into the really interesting and difficult stuff. Hopefully stuff will start being awesome soon? I still have to get a computer law course out of the way though, and that is going to be a pain (though I admit its probable utility.)

I was lucky to get a job doing small coding projects for a small company that is almost certainly overpaying me. I just happened to know the right guy, who happened to have seen me do some programming work that he considered impressive. I get the feeling that this is how it works for a lot of people; you try for a long time to get a job on your own and then someone you hadn't even considered as part of your network makes something happen for you.

Moving towards a BS in Computer Science and/or Engineering.

Depending how things go, may also be interested in specializing in fields such as robotics, or lasers. Or robots, which shoot lasers.

-BA in Information Systems. Though my skills and knowledge are outdated and I have no experience. I regret getting this, honestly.

-BA in Psychology. I'm working on this. Taking this semester off but I'll get back to it in January. Probably will take me awhile but eventually I'll get a Master's and maybe a Ph. D
