The only mushrooms used in both games are the Life-Up Shroom and 1-Up Shroom, which are both pretty much the same model textured. One possible place to check would be the beta videos, because I think that by the second showing, they had the whole "item adds to your health" thing we have in the final.

Made another set of discoveries. I actually found these a while ago, but never bothered with them until now. Meet... the Cut things.

CutRadish


This is a strange bunch of models. Let's start with the top.

CutBush seems to be a standard plant, with a rustle animation. There's a possibility it might even be used.
CutTree is as tall as you'd expect a tree to be. The interesting thing is, it is in two parts, with a slightly diagonal cut line near the middle of the trunk where it could be separated.
CutKinoko is just as tall as the tree, and has exactly the same kind of cut line.
CutStinger seems like it's some kind of... spikey plant thing. It has a cut line a little bit above the base.
CutRadish is the most interesting one. The "floor" level of the object is just a little below the bottom of the face, meaning it would probably be mostly submerged. Update: Its cut line is just below the green part.


I wonder what these things could have been for. I think they were indeed meant for this game, judging by the style and naming of the materials.

the bush and tree might be used... the trees maybe in the observatory... and im pretty sure those bushes are pretty much standard for almost every galaxy. you walk through them and starbits come out... and the mushroom is pretty interesting

Next time I get a chance to visit home, I'm going to play SMG1 and see what plants I can and can't spot. I have some other random flowerish things but I can't tell if they're used or not.


Edit: New discovery. Not very big but still. The Big Boo you see in Haunty Halls Galaxy in SMG2? His model has been around since SMG1, under the name TeresaChief.

New discovery. I normally wouldn't bump, but I plan on doing another random model exploration, so I might find more. For now:


TsukidashikunBig

Tsukidashikun is the name for the pushy wall. Despite the name, this one is the same size as the other. Fun fact: they are 15x5x5m.

This is the same style and design as the other bugs. Creepy...

Edit: Fun Fact: The DropOfWater planets have the same layout as Drip Drop Galaxy's sole planet, but at a much smaller scale and without the random crashed ships.

When was this used? It reminds me of Beady Long Legs, but I know Pikmin well enough to say this is different.

The blue version, seen in Good Egg Galaxy and others, is Karipon. Related files are KariKariIce and KariKariFreeze. The ice looks like a random wiggly blob.


Edit: New day, new discovery. Remember that planet in Good Egg, the one that was a disc with rocks on one side, SMB3 block and a cannon tower on the other? I just found an altered version of it, under the name PieFortressPlanet, with the tower destroyed. All that remains of it is a stump. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't remember that ever being used.


Edit: Beta Bob-omb found! He's located under the name DamageBomb. He uses the same beta environment image as BossCrab and others.


Edit: Even bigger and greater discovery! The sky I've been using for my Comet Observatory renders, CometNearbySky, the one featured in my wallpaper, is actually unused! I should have known something was up when I saw the lack of star-shaped lights on the planet and a huge comet filling half the sky. I'll try to get a picture, but this kind of thing isn't easy to view in bmdview. The sky actually used in the game is VROrbit.

Two copies of one of the beta parts exist under FloaterLandPartsA/B. The most interesting thing is that there's a target on the side, where Mario would arrive at the planet after being shot from a cannon. The fact it's a low version at all suggests it used to be part of a larger galaxy.

Edit: A part of Buoy Base that didn't quite make it to the final stage. Steps A, B, and D are used.

Edit: Found what is possibly another beta planet. It's called ExterminateMerameraPlanet, and it bears little resemblence to any final Melty Molten Galaxy planets. Meramera is the name for Burn Bit. It has a rather low polycount compared to regular planets.

Edit: Found something of the non-model variety. Unused Cosmic Mario/Luigi race data for Space Junk Galaxy, under the name GhostDataStarDustGalaxy. I imagine it would be possible to make use of it with enough knowledge and tinkering. Best part: it doesn't have Luigi data.

This is the low model for the metal planet you start on in Bowser Jr.'s Robot Reactor. Now this may or may not be used in the game, I haven't had a chance to check it yet, but one thing is clear: this planet wasn't always made of metal.


Edit: Found a couple more things. One, a taller version of NarutoSwitch named RocketNarutoSwitch. Second, a prototype version of the entrance to Battlerock's interior.

A couple of more things. First, beta meteor. It exists under two names, MeteoContainer and RollingRock.



Second, we have the precursor to Onitsutsu and Tox Box, the RollingBoxA. I have a feeling this is what was used on the early version of the Cyclone Stone I posted.



Now, this is where I need some translating help. The GroupInfo file for it refers to something by the name of NormalAnaBokoGoroIwa02. What does that mean?


Edit: Oh, and another thing. Know the colorful cigar-shaped planet at the end of Breaking into the Battlerock? It's called RollingOvalPlanet and the head with the cannon is a separate part. This means the planet was originally intended to spin and they just disabled it.


Edit: Look who it is! Another beta planet found.


PeanutPlanet

Unlike most planets, this one has debris around it as part of the model. It has a low version, too. It is the predecessor to the Muddy Peanut Planet, which curiously has no low version.

That thing is 5.7m tall and has animation for eating and spitting out Mario (upwards). He is more than large enough to fit Mario in his mouth.

This featureless, lumpy planet has a name referring to Urchin. There is a low model, which is absolutely identical to it. Was this used in any way? I don't think it was, but I've been wrong before.


Edit: Found a group of new things: blocks used for testing! Hidden Block is part of the set. Will show tomorrow.
