I'd say those victems should all file lawsuits, but chances are they would lose due to the utter corruption that is 21st century America.

I've got State Farm too. Regardless of what that implies, it's a heck of a lot better than some insurance agencies I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. As they mention, Illinois has one of the worst track records for insurance ever but SF has done well for us. My big thing backing me is parental backup; my father has a lot of money tied into insurance for himself and for road construction biz and my mother is on the legal end of things with her job so that kinda makes me worry less just in case something happens.

Thankfully, I'm not one of these people putting thousands of dollars into a home because they feel they have the need to own that much DAMNED stuff. I get by pretty damned well at my 'shoddy' pay of about 25 to (soon) 30K a year.

I can kinda agree with you, one thing I don't see making sense is the need to run a crapload of home improvement projects. I've never had any major problems with houses I've lived in, yet there's always some kind of home improvement project going on.

Screw insurance (except car-related, that's mandatory (sigh)), I can just invest the money I'd put into it into a special account. Sure, it'd be horribly inadequete to start, but over time would grow to outpace most things the dumb insurance company would offer me. Especially with property. Health insurance works somewhat, unlike property insurance. ____________________

Usually it's just better to get coverage from an employer, but also save some for your own use (as I have, on more than one occasion, seen someone get dropped from their job-given insurance due to an injury)...

When my dad's truck got smashed up, it took months to get just $200 from the insurance company to buy a replacement fender.

I'm not sure what company he uses. I've had good luck with health insurance, though.
