Took me a while to get the codes to work in PCSX2, looks like I only needed to copy them as is (minus the first one) and skip the BIOS startup by using "Run CD/DVD" instead of "Execute":

This does pretty much what the text file already said, but I messed around with it for a while ...


- Extended title screen menu

Map editing:
- Loaded a map (wrong textures, but using "Load Materials" fixes that)
- Changing a vertex
- Placing enemies
- Placing enemies some more
- Changed the view angle
- Map edit menu (and what seems to be an unused map)

Misc:
- The view angle can be moved anytime, anywhere
- I can walk around on any map (script 10)
- Ingame debug menu, can be used anytime while playing
- Sprite test, this also does animations
- I can walk around in a modified map too, but not fight
- More fun with view angles
- More fun with view angles again
- I can start a battle anywhere, but it ends instantly (script 11)

Went into Dark Assembly from the debug menu: (script 15)
- Hi no one, let's vote about nothing
- Nothing has been approved
- It then brought me to name a character and distribute 0 points
- And transmigrated Laharl with glitched items


- L3 toggles some debug display at the top (not mentioned in the text file), the same one shown in the unused screenshots I found before: 
?      angle(H V)  distance  focal  ?  ?

?  ?   position(X Z Y)

?  ?   tile(X Y)
The top-left number keeps changing and seems to vary depending on onscreen menus or sprites on the map, the other numbers below it only seem to change during attacks or fading, or when going to another map ...

- The "slow" zoom in/out mentioned in the text file changes the focal value, the "fast" one changes the distance

- The map editor seems mostly complete and still functional, but not much can be done with it when it's impossible to save the map (loading it in game reverts any unsaved changes)

- It's also possible to control enemies and move/attack many times in one turn

- Holding X on player 2 speeds up attacks, text, fading and such

Yeah I know, but I'm not sure if my laptop will be able to handle it, since it's a few years old and likes to randomly freeze for a few seconds quite often, and has some random slowdown issues with other stuff.

I played around with it on PCSX2 for a bit and noticed the options "D Drive" and "CD" on the map edit menu. The former can be switched between C, D and W, while the latter can be switched between CD, USB and HD. Setting the latter to USB and trying to load materials or a map results in the game crashing in the emulator - probably because no USB devices are emulated or so - which makes me wonder if the game would actually save maps to a USB memory stick attached to a real PS2?

If I could get the right materials, I'd be more than willing to test that theory out.

Also, it's very well possible that this could be for development kits or something too, so trying to use them on one of our PS2 consoles might not work or something. Lemme get in touch with one of my friends to see if something like that would be possible.

Ugh... so, the good thing is that I got the menu to work on my PS2 - patched US version of the game, running on my PAL PS2, using a hacked game executable to have the debug mode enabled (because I couldn't get any patched or whatever Codebreaker .elf to work).

The bad thing is that map saving still doesn't work, neither to USB nor HDD. Trying to save a map with HD selected only flashes a red screen for a moment, without creating any files on the HDD. Trying to save to USB just crashes the game like on PCSX2, also on a red screen, with the last 1-2 seconds of BGM looping continuously. Of course loading from either USB or HDD doesn't appear to work either.

I wouldn't mind someone with more experience regarding PS2 hacking and such to double check this, tho...

...one thing I though of after posting this just now: Could the non-working of saving to USB probably be related to the fact that I'm running the hacked game .elf from a USB stick?

I would imagine it's more that it uses some development PS2 code, and if it's anything like other development systems there was a built-in hard-drive and other hardware that simply doesn't exist on standard PS2s.

Yeah, I just talked to a friend of mine who checks in dev kits for a game company. She says that the dev kits for PS2s come equipped with CD Burners, so it definitely wouldn't be unheard of there to save to USB either.

So now if someone can get a hold of a dev kit, we can test the theory of saving our own custom levels. Swank, huh?
