Do you have trouble with stuff like noise when you're trying to sleep?

I got used to noisy and bright sleeping environments over the years, so I can probably get to sleep unless there's some huge party or snowplow or something else very loud and/or inconsistent. I have found that if someone else is in the house awake and doing stuff, I tend to wake up too, hence why I often didn't get much sleep when staying at my mom's (she got up way earlier than I usually did).

From what I remember of my parents, my dad could sleep through just about anything, but even quiet footsteps and typing noises would get or keep my mom up. I'd have to be quiet if I stayed up late or got up early, unless I was in a faraway part of the house.

My parents are like your parents when it comes to sleeping.
As for myself I sleep very deeply. Not much can wake me up.
If I am in REM-sleep it's impossible to wake me up. The times when I isn't, sounds from trucks and such wake me up.

An exception is that stupid time when I had a bakingmachine in my room. I proudly announced that's impossible to wake me
up and said I could have it in my room instead of the kitchen (my mom couldn't sleep because of it).
So then we put it in my room and I went to bed. It didn't start baking until late into the night.

When it did it started shaking because that's what they do when thay bake. Unfortunately it was placed on my desk, which
was connected to my bed, which made my bed shake violently back and forth. That, in combination with the noise, made it
impossible to sleep, and thus I went up and started up my computer instead.

So I'm not so confident about my sleeping abilities anymore, but let's just say I am a heavy sleeper.

I am a heavy sleeper. I sleep through earthquakes, people trying to wake me, and occasionally alarm clocks.

I even managed to sleep through people drilling in the wall next to my head--although it was difficult to do.

I actually keep one of those air "purifiers" on overnight. I've always slept with sound since I was small; my mom would have the radio on (usually a typical oldies/classic rock station). If it's dead silent, there's a sense of tension in my world and I can't sleep a shit.

I'm a terrible sleeper. My dad lives across the hall from where I live; his stereo speakers are not as loud as mine. But his are still loud enough for me to hear at night.

I have a fan on, and my AC running.

Usually I wake up and throw rolled up socks at his door to get him to shut up. But now? He is usually thoughtful about his noise in the middle of the night.

If I have someone sleeping in the room with me? It depends on how well I am sleeping. Early sleep I ignore it and try to go into REM. During REM? Any noise wakes me up.

Usually, I'll sleep through anything except for my phone alarm going off. Except for today, I didn't wake up until 11:20

I have to be very tired to be able to sleep right away.

It has to be dark (unless I'm watching TV to try to get to sleep) and my hubby cannot be snoring or I won't be able to sleep.

I have a hell of a time actually falling asleep. Once I'm asleep though, I'm usually fine.

It pisses me off.

I sleep just fine most of the time. Most sounds don't bother me, but I do wake up when either of my sons starts crying. They usually don't these days, they are both good sleepers, too. I don't usually get to sleep really quickly, but it doesn't take me that long. Supposedly I snore on my back so my wife always pushes me to one side or the other.

The thing I hate most is when I'm trying to sleep in and the dogs are barking in the back yard. It might as well be train crashes or something, its loud and obnoxious!

My whole family snores. I have gotten used to it.

I go to bed 3:00 AM whenever I'm free the following day. I sleep for a long time then though.

I have to be in a dark room to sleep. (Not counting the TV). I sometimes can't hear low sounds but a lightbulb on wakes me up so fast.

Lately I haven't been able to sleep early. Having one of those times where I have to stay up late and get tired to fall asleep. If I don't do that I end up in bed thinking stupid stuff. I got sleeping pills but I tend to forget that I have them. Plus they make me super groggy the next day.

Yep. I was sick of my mom always saying "Something must have been going on, you were typing so late!" and such. Even worse was when she'd actually get out of bed and tell me to go to sleep.

Also, any door closing would wake her up unless it was done very carefully so as to make no audible sound. And she was like "You have to admit that was very loud." or something. I was used to sleeping in a noisy city high-rise, so I didn't think it was loud at all.

Being the child of a chronic insomniac isn't fun at night.

In my old location I always had problems sleeping. Now that I moved, I can sleep so much better.

It may be because the computer is no longer in the same room I am sleeping in (though that will change soon), but I think it's because there are no more highways, jumbo jets and stupid teenagers right next door making lots of noise at night.

My sister and I shared a room for most of our life. She grinds her teeth. If I'm asleep, I can't hear her and I'm fine. If I'm awake, I just cannot get to sleep. I lie awake, tense, waiting, hoping that she's done and that she'll roll over and stop doing it. But then she'll do it again, and internally I'm SCREAMING. My fists are tightly clenched, my pillow will be smashed into my ear, I'll hope she's done, and *krtch krtch krtch* she'll do it again. I don't know how it gets through the pillow. It just does.

We bought a sound machine, but it only works a little. I found that listening to music (loudly) helps a little.

It goes up my spine like nails on a chalkboard. Imagine if someone had a chalkboard and, as you were trying to fall asleep, would grate their nails on it every couple of minutes.

Fortunately, now we have separate rooms

I tend to fall asleep relatively fast, but the past several days I've been having trouble getting to sleep, or simply feeling very exhausted but unable to sleep.

When I go to sleep the only noise would be the birds at trying to kill each other or something at most. And even then I am too busy crying my heart out and I'd rather join them I like that sort of noise.

Now, my point to sleeping that late is not be awake at mid-day when there's the most noise and activity and heat and stuff (and wake up in the early afternoon).
That's fine and all, but there's an obvious flaw in that plan which is basically that if I am heavilly asleep I can barely go on specially with this drilling on the other side of the wall or my family feels like being jerkasses. And once I wake up in the middle of all that I naturally won't go back to sleep.

So pretty much I (attempt to) sleep through some construction/demolition noises that are on early morning since ever, insane people yelling around and hitting things, people working on adjacent rooms, including drilling and doing stuff on the other side of the wall my bed is next to and the ceiling...
On the other hand, that and the computer noise makes it so nobody wants to sleep in the same room as me.

I usually fall asleep just fine; mostly, it takes about an hour for me to lose consciousness. I'm pretty wakeable in the morning, too.
I could never fall asleep during class or anywhere with any hear-able (?) noise (I was apparently never tired enough to though). But for some reason, I have no problem falling asleep in a car.

My parents, however, are a different case. My mom, like Terra's, seems to wake up at anything, except for dad snoring. Which is terrible and I could never bear it. Speaking of my dad, he falls asleep within minutes and sleeps deeply.
