We have a nice place now, no heavy traffic, lots of trees, pool for them to drink out of... and plenty of places for them and the dogs to do their business.

I don't think declawed cats can safely be let outside, as they have a hard time defending themselves.

Did you get them declawed, or were they already declawed when you got them?

I always thought how nice it would be to not get my hands cut up playing with my cats, but I knew it was cruel for them. I understand some people do it so they can save their furniture and keep the cats, though. If you really have to do it, then thats fine. I actually know a few vets that don't anymore unless its for medical reasons. They won't let you pay them to do it.

My dog gets his nail clipped every so often. It still doesn't stop him from gouging lines in the carpet when he stretches out

I had them done.

Youngest likes to jump/pounce on myself and hubby so it's good that he doesn't have his claws.

It was a very hard thing for me to do, for both my cats, but it had to be done.

When I had both of my cats, I had their front only declawed.

A shame that they went from 'pay per animal' to 'absolutely no pets' back in '08. It about killed me when it happened.

Cats get over it, and as long as you keep them inside its just fine. Some have complications from it, but the vast majority don't have any reactions. They learn to do without them.

My mom refused to declaw her cat, even though she destroyed the furniture and the wood trim inside.

She mostly had old furniture she didn't really care about, anyway. When I was young, they had a whole set of stuff that looked like it was just made from lumber from the hardware store by some guy in his garage or something

Well, you can't de-tooth a dog... We had a black lab that literally ate the legs off of our picnic table. We saw it leaning one way, then the next day it was half on the ground. In 2 more days, just the top was left. He tried to eat through the support beams for the porch cover in the backyard, too. That dog was a menace.

Most of my concern was over the fact that I had allergies. One cat scratch would ruin my day.

This.

I also get red bumps/rash if I get their saliva on me.

Mine was either scratch or dander. The dander part was mostly for short-hairs and got better with age. I didn't cough or sneeze, or get really wheezy but I did tend to break out with something if I messed with one for too long. Usually was pretty mild.

A scratch, though, would drop me down with a fever if I wasn't careful.

I might have been allergic to cat fur, as I'd sneeze and have itchy mouth sometimes when I visited my parents.

I still love soft, cute cats

I've know several people that have cat allergies but suffer it because they love cats so much. Just a cruel turn of fate. I'm lucky enough to not really have any allergies, pollen, dander, etc. Although getting your hand torn up by a cat is not fun regardless if your allergic or not. I learned to use socks to play with them. Less pain.

I've been wanting to get one of those for my sons room, sometimes he gets stuff at night. Thought maybe it would help. He doesn't seem allergic, since he's fine during the day.

But allergies can develop over time. Best to get one, if anything, to clean the air, it really does help.

My wife doesn't have allergies really, either. So he should be fine as he grows up.

I don't have any allergies that I know of. Cats, dogs, whatever, I seem to be allergy-free.
