For an English project, inspired in part by the people of #super-x: A poem to this most beautiful rose I will write, The fairest lady which I have ever laid sight. To my Juliet, whom I had met At that party held by Lord Capulet. When I first saw you, it was love at first sight But I knew we could not be together without a fight. Our families, they loathed each other, To the point their blood has stained many a gutter. But I had nothing to fear, for love conquers all Or so I thought, as we were nearing the fall With a man named Paris you were to marry The wedding ceremony was not to tarry My heart, into a million pieces lay broken How did I not know of this man they had spoken? No matter, for all hope was not lost For even I knew that it was not out of love Your heart was grieving, as did mine For our families had drawn the line Your cousin challenged me to a duel His death and my friend’s were the most cruel. And then, by order of the Prince I was banished For killing a man, my reputation tarnished But what, may I ask, did I have to fear? While not in body, in spirit you were near. You came up with a plan so we could be together But little did we know, it would not be forever A wrong turn of events and I found you were dead Why could I not be at your deathbed? At least we would be joined in death So I plunged your dagger through my chest Our parents cried, “What have we done?” Because of their fighting, their children were gone. As the lovers lay there, their hands entwined The bells of the church six times had chimed. Both Capulet and Montague renounced their battles The wheels of peace had begun to rattle. Honestly, that's a good overview-slash-epilogue. Flow of the poem's not bad at all and it captures what went on in mister Romeo's mind well. If the English teacher's looking for a page-full, I'd be giving it high marks. Not a bad short poem at all.
