4chan, some call it the worst place on the internet... I just don't get it myself.

For example, I have a class mate who is as obsessed with that place (/tg) as I am of this place and metconst. (metroid hacking place)

Like, I know where are many that hate the place and I know there are people who love to spend their time there... I just don't get either sides. Topics don't stick around so you can't keep talking about the same subject easily and you can't got back a few days and bring up an topic again when it's relevant so you just have to make a new topic.

The people who claim the place is good or bad focuses on the content that is displayed there... yet I have to digress, I have seen the same content at many other places on the internet. If it's shitty due to the image board usage then I can agree, it's like a mix of the worst stuff from a real time chat and a forum.

Not quite sure what the point of this topic is... but I just don't get the it or why that place is such a big deal. :/

Only been there a handful of times. And most of the times it is someone telling me to go there. I'm indifferent to it. Doesn't suck my soul in like some other people. Same goes for Tvtropes.

I'm kinda in the same boat as Lunaria about 4chan. Nothing specifically against it but it's just never really interested me at all and I can't really fathom how it could be very interesting. It's fast moving like a chat, but has a less efficient interface of a message board, so it's easy for a topic to get lost VERY fast, especially with all the other activity. Similar to talking in a chat room with a bunch of conversations going at once.

The only thing that ever sucked my soul was TF2, and even then I was able to drop that like a hot pan. As for 4chan? Love of it for the humor; Hate it for itself. That's about how most people who are simply aware of 4chan stand.

4chan was once just a community of people that talked about various things.

Then 4chan got really popular in media, therefore bringing a lot of people that wouldn't have used it out to the Internet to post unfunny stuff and act superior to everyone.

I haven't gone to 4chan either and I also don't plan on going there soon. I actually heard that 4chan is kinda like a meme factory. Other than that I don't really know much about it...

/b/ people tried to attack me back when my line of discussion about it was "It's stupid." (They also failed quite hilariously, and wound up raiding ||board by mistake instead.)

This was, of course, back when people were quoting it everywhere in my face and acting like it was the center of the internet itself. To someone like me who had been around the internet pre-4chan, it annoyed me.

But now that it has settled down more and the different 4chan folders are more apparent to me, I can say that some parts of it are stupid, and some are not. It's not my cup of tea, but sans that one incident, they haven't come after me, so I don't really care anymore either way.

If I recall correctly, it was those types (who would then go into forums I went on and announce how superior they were to everyone) whom I began yelling anti-4chan things over in the old days.

You can, actually. It happens a ton on /v/. Granted, 75% of the threads are retarded (though actually tolerable compared to /b/), but when you find that 25%, it's decent.

Anyway, I frequent the Monster Hunter General threads. It's a nice place to get with players (other than a couple friends who aren't on at the time) who actually know what they're doing, as well as to get information or some amusement. At one point, when the thread 404's, someone reposts the general thread again and the conversation continues.

Spend some time on the different boards and see how it goes. Just keep in mind that

I remember coming to 4chan on day one...

I go back there occasionally to kill some time and reminisce about how much more fun it used to be back in 2003 when almost nobody knew about the shithole!

I still prefer 2ch, that's where I learned about all of the other "chans" that were spawned but it is by far the better of forums, the only problem being that it is all in Japanese.
