Is it allowed to upload reasonably short videos of beta material onto the wiki (using the OGG format), or should they be on YouTube only?

Personally, I think we should keep them YouTube-only until we figure out exactly how we want to handle multimedia files. It seems to be the most widely-accessible and easiest to use format right now.

How big's the file, just out of curiosity?

It's just below two megabytes, i. e. within the upload limit (so technically, there's nothing preventing me to do that right now).

But of course you have a point with YouTube being the most supported video format. I just thought that since it only supports some fixed resolutions, some videos (especially ones with a size < 320x240 and a different aspect ratio) would look horrible in that.

Hmm. Maybe we should start offering both a high-quality downloadable version and the lower-quality (but real-time) YouTube version for these things? Keep the latter for the casual "just passing through" crowd, and add the former for both preservation purposes and for those users who want to examine something more closely.
